Teck Hin Fried Hor Fun, Ghim Moh

Teck Hin Fried Hor Fun, Ghim Moh

I've never really liked stir fried hor fun with starchy gravy. It was more because of the starchy gravy than anything else and I have never understood it. To that, I've also never enjoyed stir fried beef from hawker stalls because they tasted nothing like cow to me. Not in the slightest bit in their texture or taste. Maybe it was the sweat drenched proprietor behind his flaming wok fueled by a queue, I decided to make an exception and gave the stall a go. Here was a serving of Teck Hin's (Ghim Moh Food Centre, Blk 20 Ghim Moh Road, #01-44) fish and beef hor fun. The freshly fried hor fun turned out to be pretty decent, imbued with the char aroma from the wok that was enjoyable. On hindsight, I should have opted for just fish slices. I still don't think much of the pre-made viscous gravy that was ladled from plastic containers and the unidentifiable meat substance tasted exactly like how I had expected it.

  1. The next time you're down at Ghim Moh for lunch, try the roast meats from Jiu Jiang Shao La, but be prepared to queue. Roast duck, char siew and sio bak are all pretty good.

Jiu Jiang's one of the better roast meats stall in town, the other one stall I found very awesome is Lee Hong Kee at Tiong Bahru Market FC.

this is the roast meat stall at TB mkt i was telling you about. roast duck, roast pork are excellent. Ask for the "bu jian tian" (cannot see sky) part of the char siew if you order char siew. double boiled soups are good too. my family fav. we eat there very frequently.

  5. Any idea if this stall does the dry version? Fried beef horfun is now my current muse. Just had a superb fried beef horfun from Crystal Jade Kitchen at their Holland Village branch. Excellent wok-hei and they're very generous with the beef slices. Awesomeness! The beef horfun is the dry kind, not the starchy gravy sort. You should really give it a try.

  6. I don't think so. It seems to be all standard serving with gravy. I'm not exactly big on beef hor fun since there's really nothing beefy about them.
