Prawnography, Novena Gardens
Heard about Prawnography (#01-03A Novena Gardens, 273 Thomson Road, tel : +65 8686 9777) recently and I've gotta admit their name was at least a little bit arresting. Tried their Hokkien mee. Noodle's were nicely scorched and was smokey with the stock. Pretty flavourful but lacking in the crustacean aspect and it was also a little sweet - the latter part bothered me a little. Surfeit crept in after half the plate. Chilli didn't pack much punch in flavour and also didn't have as much heat as the fiery red might have suggested.

粿条面 from Lai Heng Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (來興香菇肉脞麵)
Back at Lai Heng. It's just textures rotation I'm going through so today's breakfast was kuey teow and yellow noodles (粿条面). Not as good a combination as the bee hoon with yellow noodles (米粉面). The kuey teow they used were the narrower and softer variety. They clump easily and become a little gummy if not tossed well with sufficient oil. Good for their soup bowl, not necessarily these dry ones.

Some breads at ABC Food Corner
Back at ABC Food Corner. The quality of their food can be inconsistent. Sometimes it's bad that I didn't even think it was worth the effort of a posting a picture and writing a couple of thoughts. Ordered naan from them for the first time today. Mutton keema naan.
Spread on the inside with curried minced mutton. Spicy and pretty salty but I thought it worked with the naan which was kinda bready. Gotta try these somewhere else to get a better sensing of how they normally are.
Got a plate of their mutton kothu prata again. The order taker was shifty and wasn't interested in getting what we request correctly so we ended up with chopped mutton instead of the minced variety we had gotten the last time. It's not bad tasting though. In spite of enjoying it, what bothered me was how greasy it was.

Perhaps one last China Street Fritter-ing......
This visit to China Street Fritters was prompted in part by a publication which has recently written about their permanent closure - about their intention to quietly close their stall without drawing attention. Said publication had previously also talked about their decision to close shop after their ill fated attempt at selling their business for a million dollars and how that decision was reversed.
From what we read into the situation, I don't think there was ever a want to quietly close shop since every time they had talked about retirement, buzz was generated and crowds formed at their stall. If they had truly wanted to "quietly close their stall", they wouldn't have agreed to the interviews with the mentioned publication in the first place with the full understanding that this would go anyway but quietly.
It smelled like a last ditch effort to see if there might be still potential buyers to their business when they have finally decided to "close the stall for good". If I were YouTubing, I would at this point kinda conclude with "...but what do you think? Tell me in the comments below and if you like what I do, remember to subscribe by hitting the bell..." 😂
But since I'm not......it's mostly the fragrant and crisp egg slices we got this time which is our favourite item from their offerings with the liver rolls next in line. There's a century egg and a tau kwa on that plate too but they aren't special. I'll miss those former two if they eventually close.

$5.50 nasi padang at Oxley Bizhub Part 2
Following up from my previous mention about the nasi padang from FoodHub @ Oxley Bizhub, here's another. Similarly packed and a better look at what was actually in the box.
Scooped the chunks of paru goreng aside so there's better perspective on how much I had gotten. The portions of the paru with bronchioles tends to be chewier.
Sayur lodeh also plentiful. Though I don't know why I get tau kwa sometimes. Gotta be a random/mood thing.
