More Miznon

Miznon, abu kebab

Back at Miznon. Tried the abu kebab pita which was stuffed with beef and lamb meatballs. Meatball's generously salted and I tasted pepper. Texture was coarse and the flavour's nice but I couldn't tell the beef and lamb in it.

Miznon, red prawn

This red prawn pita's relatively new I think. Tasty spicing with a bit of smokiness on those firm meaty bugs. I like this better than the abu.

Burning Melanzana, Moussaka and what intimate plate at Miznon

Miznon, Stanley Street

Back at Mizon.

Miznon, pita

The complimentary pita with chilli and tahini is always welcomed. Great to load up with if not for the fact that we were already ordering more pitas.

Miznon, eggplant pita

Got a couple of eggplant pitas today.
  • Burning Melanzana - eggplant with a slab of toasty fried mozzarella. I couldn't taste much of the eggplant. It was mostly the mozzarella and yeah, I liked it.
  • Moussaka - beef ragout, eggplant, tahini, chilli and pickles. Also not getting the eggplant but the rest of it was delicious. Loved how the meatiness from the ragout came through. Wouldn't have known there was eggplant in it if not for the menu.
Ironic how we had gotten eggplant pitas and it was the other stuffings that shone because......eggplant. 😅

Miznon, intimate plate

Their Intimate Plate was not memorable. I've seen it on the menu for a while now and it was basically the short rib that intrigued. In retrospect, the slightly stringy short rib was right at the bottom of the list on the plate. Not the fatty flavourful beefy short rib I imagined. Will not be getting this again.

Lamb, mushrooms, sweet potato and the sign you've been looking for at Miznon

Miznon, the sign you've been looking for

Came by Miznon because there was a lamb shawarma pita on the menu that was labelled *special*. I'm a sucker like that sometimes and also because...lamb.

Miznon, lamb shawarma pita

I liked it as a whole as their pitas went but sadly, the meat was a little lean and didn't have enough flavours to compete with the other ingredients stuffed in the pita. Like the chilli and the pickles which overwhelmed what little there was of the lamb's natural meat flavour. Also, did not expect something that looked stir fried - not what I had in mind of shawarma.

Miznon, mushroom plate

Their mushroom plate was delicious. Great pairing with sour cream.

Miznon, batata

Yum yum tender sweet batata.

Rotisserie chicken pita from Miznon

Miznon, rotisserie broken chicken pita

Finally tried the rotisserie chicken pita from Miznon. It's not bad but some of the ingredients were lost in all the flavours. Not sure where that baba ganoush went and their usually prominent chilli is strangely missing. I wouldn't rank this at the top among those I've tried though.

What Miznon keeps (in Davy Jones' Locker)

Miznon, fennel

No, not the fennel. Not that particular locker that is. We managed to get counter seats at Miznon today.

Miznon, masabaha

Ordered a portion of their masabaha. Cooked chickpeas with chilli, tomatoes, tahini, hard boiled eggs and maybe olive oil too. I liked how they salted this.

Miznon, fish and chips

We tried a couple of their seafood stuffed pitas. This was fish & chips which featured seared barramundi and fried potatoes. Loved the tanginess from the vinegar and pickles pairing with the creamy aioli on the fish.

Miznon, adom yam

The other, Adom Yam, had seared calamari; not forgetting loads of sweet crunchy onions with sour cream. The sauce that soaked into the pita was savoury and peppery. Another delicious one as well.

More food from Miznon

Miznon, Stanley Street

Revisiting Miznon. Seems that they've run out of cauliflowers.

Miznon, whole animal of artichokes

Artichokes appear to be in season though. We ordered one.

Miznon, pita

There's roasted chilli with their free pita & tahini. Nice.

Miznon, artichoke

The artichoke was okay-ish. Was drizzled with olive oil, lemon juice and some salt. Yellow puddle on the side was lemon aioli. It was more satisfying eating those large ones at Le Bistrot du Sommelier.

Miznon, pita candy brisket

This was their 'pita candy brisket'. Was from the specials section of their menu featuring seared beef brisket that was well caramelized on the pan - plus onions, tahini, pickles and chilli.  Pretty good. Brisket was crispy on the outside and tender underneath that crisp.

Miznon, sweet potato

Very nice roasted sweet potato. Sweet and very tender. I thought it worked very well with the sour cream and dill with salt.

Miznon, Stanley Street

Miznon, Stanley Street

Miznon (#01-01, 6 Stanley Street, tel : +65 6223 0716) as I gathered is contemporary casual Israeli. Meaning it won't be traditional in the traditional sense of the word (heh!) and there will be borrowed elements that originate from other food cultures. The name means cafeteria in Hebrew and they're a chain with presence in New York, Paris, Vienna and Melbourne; run by a Eyal Shani who is a judge in Masterchef Israel.

I don't think they're Kosher though.

Without further accolade brandishing......

Miznon, Stanley Street

...they offer free pita with tahini.

Miznon, free pita & tahini

Which we helped ourselves to. The pita was pillowy, better than any I've had so far. Nice munching with the creamy nutty tahini.

Miznon, run over potato

That's their Run Over Potato - a flattened baked potato with sour cream, dill, olive oil and salt. That's all my tongue told. Gimmicky but I did enjoy it. There's also a story behind why it's called run over potato that you can Google. It involves a heinous crime once in Tel Aviv.

Miznon, folded cheeseburger pita

Pitas are their thing. There's a bunch of them with different stuffings. This one's Folded Cheeseburger. The menu doesn't state cheese but look at that beautiful golden brown fan of a crust there! Ground beef patty, that crusty cheese, tomato, fried egg and pickles. Very hearty. So not Kosher.

Miznon, chicken liver pita
Miznon, chicken liver pita

We had a chicken liver pita. Liver was pink and tender, lifted by the spring onions and chilli.

Miznon, roasted baby cauliflower

Miznon is known, for some reasons, for their roasted baby cauliflower. It's nice. I tasted salt and olive oil. I heard that's grey sea salt (sel gris) they used. That and the cauliflower with the smoky char. The "world famous" status seemed overblown if I might opine. Either this shop did a lousy job and I wasn't as impressed as I should have been or the world has been eating really bad cauliflowers. But like I said, it's nice.
