Idli and eggs from Sri Aachi Aappakadai Pte Ltd

Sri Aachi Aappakadai Pte Ltd, idli and eggs

Came by Sri Aachi Aappakadai Pte Ltd for idli and egg kalaki.

Sri Aachi Aappakadai Pte Ltd, idli

The chutney treatment was quite different from the last time.

Sri Aachi Aappakadai Pte Ltd, egg kalaki

Egg kalaki was loaded with onions. It's not bad an omelette but I'm not a fan of the overwhelming sharpness from so much onions. I like the one from Anjappar at Brickfields better.

More breakfasting at Bangalore Cafe

Bangalore Cafe, Syed Alwi Road

Here's getting more breakfast at Bangalore Cafe.

Bangalore Cafe, rava idli

I'm on the verge of declaring my favourite rava idli here but I think I should get it again at MTR just to convince myself which one is better.

Bangalore Cafe, bisibele bath

Bisibele bath tasted better than it looked. Aside from the robust warm savoury spices in the porridge, there's also boondi for some contrasting crunch.

Bangalore Cafe, neer dosa

Neer dosa's texture was a little different from what we've had at MTR and Kalam Restaurant. It's more moist/wet. Sweet coconut/jaggery was also more coarse/rustic and I didn't mean that in a bad way. There's the other coconut chutney infused with cumin that came with the dosa as well. It's not the same as their usual coconut chutney which doesn't have cumin. Not bad tasting.

Some breakfast from ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant

ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant, teh halia nescafe tarik

Breakfasting at ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant. Teh halia's fine and the Nescafe tarik didn't look like it went through much tarik-ing. I like these beverages better from Umar Ali Cafe next door because they're made better in my not so humble opinion.

ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant, roti banjir

Okay-ish roti banjir. It's not a bad rendition but I prefer Umar Ali's because that one was more umami from the dalcha and fish curry. This one had a sweet sambal.

ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant, mutton dosa

Their mutton dosa/thosai used rice flour with little fermentation. It's apparent from the taste.

ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant, mutton dosa

I got this because they mentioned that the mutton they used was keema. This set my expectations looking forward to only keema. Did not expect the eggs and shredded red onions inside. Suspect this might have been what they put in their murtabak. Didn't think much of this because I found the onions disruptive for both taste and texture.

Ghee onion rava masala dosa from Saravanaa Bhavan and......

Saravanaa Bhavan, ghee onion rava masala dosa

More breakfasting at Saravanaa Bhavan. Pretty good ghee onion rava masala dosa. There's coriander in it which had its flavour cooked out so woohoo! Loads of crunch and nice flavour from the black peppercorn in the dosa.

Saravanaa Bhavan, rava uppuma

The yummy uppuma of theirs was as yummy as before.

Junior Kuppanna, Kitchener Road

Junior Kuppanna, Kitchener Road

I remember seeing the long queues outside Junior Kuppanna at Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur the last time I was there. This was the local branch at Little India (161 Kitchener Road, tel : +65 9235 5116)

Junior Kuppanna, mutton briyani

Mutton briyani. Full portion. Seeraga Samba rice is used here.

Junior Kuppanna, mutton briyani

Not bad tasting. Ample warm flavour from the spices in the rice. Mutton was tender but dry-ish. Half of mine were bones.

Junior Kuppanna, chicken briyani

Chicken briyani. Half portion. Also not bad tasting. Flavour's a little different because of the meat. Like the other briyani, the protein was tender but dry-ish.

Junior Kuppanna, raita

Note to self: Raita has coriander hidden inside.

Junior Kuppanna, curry

A couple of curries came with the briyani. The chicken one was spicy, coconut-y and delicious.

Junior Kuppanna, gobi 65

Their gobi 65 was nice. Cauliflower florets were coated in a deliciously savoury crisp batter.

Breakfast during 初一 and 初二

Queenstown Lontong, nasi lemak

初一 Nasi lemak with extra chicken wings from Queenstown Lontong. I got a piece of tau kwa with it today which was unusual because it's not something they, or other nasi lemak stalls for that matter, include in nasi lemak. Not complaining though. I do feel that the rice tasted better when I had it in their old location at Tanglin Halt. I don't see many of the add ons that used to be available anymore too.

Prata Saga Sambal Berlada, egg cheese onion prata

初二 Egg, onion & cheese prata from Prata Saga Sambal Berlada (, ). Red onions lightly cooked down in the prata with milky saltiness from the cheese which is subsequently layered with a mutton-y dalcha and their signature sambal. Nice! 👍🏼

Some new stuff from Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, Syed Alwi Road

At Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant (, )  during lunch to check out some of the new-er items on their menu. I don't know when they were introduced but we noticed them from our last visit.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, vegetable briyani

The reason why we were here at lunch instead of the usual breakfast timing was because their vegetable briyani is only available from 11am.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, vegetable briyani

It's pretty good. Savoury with warm spices and pepper with bits of vegetables like green peas, string beans, tomato, nuts and if I wasn't mistaken, some paneer. Flavourful yet not heavy. It's a single portion per order for this one. Why did I mention it? Because some briyani come in big assed portions that can feed two.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, kesari sambar korma raita

Came with sambar, korma, raita and some kesari. Sambar was delicious.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, kizhi dosa

The other new item on their menu was their kizhi dosa. From what I found after some brief search, kizhi translates into pouch/parcel/bundle in Tamil/Malayalam. So this was a parcel-ed dosa wrapped in banana leaf and subsequently steamed. They even have an IG reel showing how it's cooked.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, kizhi dosa

Kinda similar to a banjir prata with the gravy soaked in and all. Obviously there was none of the crisp like the regular ones have. There was something between the layers of dosa which I couldn't identify though. Anyways, this one was pretty hefty. Not bad tasting.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant in January

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, Syed Alwi Road

First breakfast at Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant (, , , , , , , ) for 2026.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, ghee pongal

It'll probably be the end of days if we ever said no to these buttery rice/lentil porridge infused with black peppercorn and cumin. Today's ghee pongal was nicely salted and awesome!

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, ghee garlic podi idli

Couldn't resist their always delicious freshly steamed ghee garlic podi idli.

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, powders

Just noticed today that we can buy the podi/garlic powder from them. Hmmm...🤔

Murugan Idli Veg. Restaurant, ghee mudakkathan podi masala dosa

Ghee mudakkathan podi masala dosa - the masala rendition of the ghee mudakkathan podi dosai. If anyone's still struggling with what masala is in the context of dosa, it refers to the curried potato/vegetable stuffings. Anyways, great podi flavouring paired with ghee that you could further flavour bomb with the chutneys.

Christmas 2025 breakfast at Saravanaa Bhavan

Saravanaa Bhavan, Serangoon Road

Yet another breakfast at Saravanaa Bhavan. They appear to be more crowded then usual on Christmas morning.

Saravanaa Bhavan, curd idly

More mysterious creamy stuff.

Saravanaa Bhavan, curd idly

This time they're idly. That dried chilli on the side - I think the name's mor milagai. That's pretty potent with the heat and salt.

Saravanaa Bhavan, ghee roast

Ghee roast - thin, crispy and buttery.

Maggie goreng keema from Umar Ali Cafe

Umar Ali Cafe, maggi goreng keema

A recent breakfast of another permutation of fried noodles down at Umar Ali Cafe. Nicely done with some heat and bits of minced lamb. But I've noticed an inconsistency. The last time we ordered their rice/noodle goreng without stating any preferences, we were served the putih (white) ones which I had assumed to be the default unless merah (red) was requested for. This one was automatically enrolled as a red plate. 🤔

Breakfast at A2B Veg Restaurant

A2B Veg Restaurant, Serangoon Road

We've had breakfast at A2B Veg Restaurant a few times. This wasn't the first. Ordered a few "usuals".

A2B Veg Restaurant, vadai

Like vadai.

A2B Veg Restaurant, ghee pongal

And their mouth watering ghee pongal which appears to have gotten its form back.

A2B Veg Restaurant, carrot uttapam

I wanted another go with their carrot uttapam today. To convince myself that what I had previously was how it is and will be. But, the coriander wasn't in the uttapam today. The sweetness from the carrots also didn't taste as apparent. Why?!

A2B Veg Restaurant, ragi idly

Our first ragi idly. Never noticed them in the menu previously. These are made with millet flour. Texture was a little more supple and there seemed to be a faint nuttiness together with the fermentation sour.

Sakunthala's Restaurant, Syed Alwi Road

Sakunthala's Restaurant, Syed Alwi Road

First time eating at this branch (88 Syed Alwi Road, tel : +65 6297 0895) of Sakunthala's. We've previously eaten at their other branches at Race Course Road, Dunlop Street and Safra Mount Faber. Their food so far have been hits and misses for me.

Sakunthala's Restaurant, mysore mutton briyani

Had their Mysore mutton briyani. Not a fan of their Mysore mutton. The spice paste was spicy and nutty which I liked but the meat was a little hard and stringy. Hard and stringy's a dealbreaker. The rest of the stuff on the plate was decent.

Sakunthala's Restaurant, onion uttapam

Their onion uttapam was nice. The pancake was lightly browned with a crisp exterior and a toasty aromatic sweetness from the shredded onions. Their chutneys were serviceable but not memorable.
