Together Nasi Lemak, Food Place @ Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

Together Nasi Lemak, Food Place @ Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur

Came across Together Nasi Lemak (Food Place, Lot 1.29.01 – Lot 1.29.04, Pavilion KL, 168 Jalan Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur) from social media a couple of years back and have been curious about them. They have a few outposts around in KL. What they're known for is pork nasi lemak. Specifically one with pork belly berempah.

Together Nasi Lemak, pork berempah nasi lemak

Fuck me the rice was spectacular! This was heart clogging santan infusion paired with adequate salting which resulted in a delicious lemak savouriness. Sambal's expectedly sweet and spicy with notes from onion and anchovies. Pork belly berempah tasted much like how it sounded. One can imagine the commonly found berempah flavouring on crisp pork belly instead of chicken. Pretty tasty and meaty.

Together Nasi Lemak, pork rendang dumplings

This was dumpling season and there's currently a nasi lemak zhang which featured pork rendang and salted egg. Nice. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Not much of the coconut flavour coming through though because of the rendang, sambal and salted egg.

Muchas Muchachos (as transpired end June 2026)

Muchachos

Surprise update on Muchachos because we came back again.

Muchachos, double cheeseburger

To get the double cheeseburger before we can't get it anymore.

Muchachos, double cheeseburger

If anyone's wondering if it's juicy...

Muchachos

...wonder no more.

Muchachos, country fried steak

More of their country fried steak and buttery mash.

Muchachos, birria ramen

Trying their birria ramen for the first time. Sans cilantro.

Muchachos, birria ramen

Of places, Muchachos was definitely one of the last I'd expected to find an equivalent of a kickass ็บข็ƒง็‰›่‚‰้ข. I've never had a birria before and this was what it tasted like to me with that bovine depth, spicy greasiness and salt. A much better/more satisfying rendition of Chinese ็บข็ƒง beef noodle than what we've actually had in Taiwan. This was also just like how I remembered the beef noodle broth from Lai Lai back in the day when they were the Taiwanese beef noodle shop to be eating at.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), Great World

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), Great World

Nong Geng Ji is one of a few Hunan based restaurant that's mushroomed around the island in recent years. Like Xiang Xiang which we've had a few times before. This was from the branch at Great World (#01-115/116 Great World, 1 Kim Seng Promenade, tel : +65 6908 0347).

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), Great World

Metallic.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), Great World

This bothered me. The block of solid fuel they used for their heaters was wrapped in plastic and they left the plastic wrapper and lit them up together. That's gotta be some level of residual toxicity if they keep doing that right?

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), prawn vermicelli garlic ่’œ่“‰ๅคง่™พไป

Tried their big shrimp and vermicelli with garlic (่’œ่“‰ๅคง่™พไป) which was steamed on serving. The server put a timer to return but that dude returned several times because he wasn't satisfied with the doneness. They need work on the SOP for the timing...hahaha.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), prawn vermicelli garlic ่’œ่“‰ๅคง่™พไป

A tad greasy and most of the flavour came from the garlic. Edible but not impressed.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), stir fried cauliflower ๅคง็ข—ๆœ‰ๆœบ่Šฑ่œ

Their stir fried cauliflower (ๅคง็ข—ๆœ‰ๆœบ่Šฑ่œ) was pretty good though. Those fragrant chunks of fried lard, sweet cloves of garlic and bits of chilli helped with that. Good with rice.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), stir fried beef with tea oil ่Œถๆฒน้ฒœ็‚’็‰›่‚‰

That's the stir fried beef with tea oil (่Œถๆฒน้ฒœ็‚’็‰›่‚‰). The dish had a flavour that we weren't familiar with and I'm guessing it's the tea oil. Dish packed a bit of heat and those green stuff tasted like celery. Meat wasn't fatty and was a little sinewy. Not impressed at all.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), bean curd skin & eggs ้ฒœ่…็šฎ็„–้ธก่›‹

Bean curd skin & eggs (้ฒœ่…็šฎ็„–้ธก่›‹) - not bad. Realized that we've had something similar at Xiang Xiang at Westgate so I'm kinda getting predictable with my choices.

Nong Geng Ji (ๅ†œ่€•่ฎฐ), rice

Rice was much more enjoyable with the dishes than the vermicelli.

116 ็ƒง่…Š•้บต, People's Park Food Centre

116 ็ƒง่…Š•้บต, People's Park Food Centre

Chanced upon 116 ็ƒง่…Š•้บต (#01-1092 People’s Park Food Centre, 32 New Market Road) one evening and got a plate of triple roast rice. We were sure we've seen them almost every time we've been in this food centre and have never afforded them nothing more than a cursory glance.

116 ็ƒง่…Š•้บต, char siew roast duck roast pork rice

Pretty decent plate of roast duck, roast pork and char siew. $10 for this one. Meats were arguably tender yet with a good bite to them with no melt in your mouth BS. I liked that the rice was moist and tender - unexpectedly great pairing with the garlicky chicken rice chilli which served as a counter to the richness of the proteins.

Double cheeseburgers, burritos and country fried steak from Muchachos

Muchachos, Cecil Street

I read that Muchachos is closing sometime towards the end of July. Which is a pity because I kinda dug their California burrito and breakfast burrito - a couple of things they have on menu that didn't have coriander/cilantro. But we didn't head down today because they were closing. I wanted to try their cheeseburger which I've been meaning to for ages. Now that we have, I've shifted from that sense of pity to something akin to sadness that they're closing.

Muchachos, double cheeseburger

Because what they did was nice. Cheese, nice coarse beef patties, pickles and lettuce without excessive saucing.

Muchachos, double cheeseburger

They didn't do fancy which was kinda what I've been looking for. Was it coincidental that this reminded me of the burger at the defunct One Night Only and Muchachos was part of them? Maybe I'm over reading this.

Muchachos, country fried steak

Also tried their country fried steak which I've also been curious about for some time.

Muchachos, country fried steak

Meat's tender, well done and has a bit of beefiness underneath a crust that reminded me of fried chicken. Quite peppery. The one thing I thought could have been improved was their gravy. Would have liked it richer and less starchy.

A couple of weeks later......
I knew I would be missing these so we came back for them. In the event that Muchachos never re-emerges somewhere else in the future, we'd have these last memories of them.
Muchachos, breakfast burrito

The breakfast burrito with maple syrup no less.

Muchachos, california burrito

And the California burrito with hot sauce.

Nasi lemak from Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food

Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food, nasi lemak

Decent quality nasi lemak from Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food. Sweet and spicy sambal as per usual and savoury coconut rice which was adequately salted for flavour. Didn't find anything else particularly outstanding but I'd say they're an viable option for Malay styled nasi lemak at Chinatown's food centre if one has a hankering for a plate.

A recent bowl of mee pok from Liang Seng Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (ๆจ‘ๆˆ้ฆ™่‡่‚‰่„ž้บต)

Liang Seng Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (ๆจ‘ๆˆ้ฆ™่‡่‚‰่„ž้บต), mee pok

So the auntie at the stall confirmed that they don't do Sundays anymore.

The Ceylonese Affair, Mei Ling Food Centre

The Ceylonese Affair, Mei Ling Food Centre

Came across The Ceylonese Affair (#02-17 Mei Lin Food Centre, 159 Mei Chin Road) recently. The stall does only briyani and appam

The Ceylonese Affair, butter chicken briyani

It's actually not bad tasting. That being said, it was different from the more flavourful briyani that most of us might be used to. The rice was spiced but I'd call the flavour infusion gentle.

This was their butter chicken briyani which featured their fried chicken with butter chicken sauce. Understandably, most of the flavour came from the sauce. Came with achar on the side. Those brown bits scattered on top were fried onions. Nice.

Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, Stirling Road

Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, Stirling Road

Have been here (#01-1133, 170 Stirling Road, tel : +65 8958 1133) a few times for their triple espresso con panna on the go but never a sit in until today.

Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, sparkling coffee

Sparkling coffee's not bad.

Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee, sparkling coffee

Lightly aromatic, not thick or full bodied. But good drinking in a hideout from the scorching heat.

Noci Bakehouse, Suntec City

Noci Bakehouse, Suntec City

Sister to Noci Pasta Bar located at the end of Suntec closer to Millenia Walk (#01-604, Suntec City Tower 3, 3 Temasek Boulevard). They're at the spot that used to be Bakery 1946.

Noci Bakehouse, black sesame salt bread butter

What's enticing about the bakery are their salt bread - their equivalent to Japanese shio pan. These here were larger. Got the one with black sesame and butter.

Noci Bakehouse, black sesame salt bread butter

The insides had sweet black sesame paste and butter. Nice!

Noci Bakehouse, cream salt bread

The cream salt bun is not to be missed.

Noci Pasta Bar, Suntec City

Noci Pasta Bar, Suntec City

Korean pasta place at Suntec (#01-386 Suntec City Mall, 8 Temasek Boulevard) that opened late last year. They're by a Gold Moon Restaurants Group which has brought in brands like Tonshou and Seoul Noodle Shop.

Noci Pasta Bar, sourdough whipped butter

Complimentary sourdough with whipped butter. Butter's nice. Bread's okay-ish. I prefer them with a bit more tang and texture.

Noci Pasta Bar, baccala sourdough

There's baccala. Not as lard infused as I was imagining. Flavour's mostly from the fish which wasn't a bad thing.

Noci Pasta Bar, bottarga squid ink tarjarin

Had a couple of pastas. This one featured their in house squid ink tajarin with bottarga and anchovies - understandably umami that way. Not bad.

Noci Pasta Bar, cacio e pepe tajarin

The other was their cacio e pepe which also used their house made tajarin. What's different from the usual cacio e pepe are the crush bits of pistachio. Would like for it to be a bit more cheesy and peppery but I think I enjoyed this as well.

Both pasta had great texture.

Noci Pasta Bar, cream di noci

A coffee called cream di noci which had bits of walnut and walnut oil. There was a thick crema but I didn't detect walnut flavour from the mundane tasting coffee which had little worth mentioning.
