Kenny Hills Bakers on The Park, The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur

Kenny Hills Bakers on The Park, The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur

Dinner at the Kenny Hills Bakers at TRX (The Exchange TRX, PL05, PL06 & L04, Park Level, Persiaran TRX, Tun Razak Exchange, 55188 Kuala Lumpur).

Kenny Hills Bakers on The Park, smoked haddock leeks gruyere toastie

Their smoked haddock toastie with leeks and Gruyere was so good.

Smoky from the fish, salty and cheesy amid all the butteriness in the toasted bread.

Kenny Hills Bakers on The Park, steak bone marrow croissant pie

There was a dinner only steak, bone marrow and croissant pie which sounded interesting. The top crust was a buttery croissant with a bone wedged in the middle. Yes there was marrow in that bone.

Pie was not bad tasting as a whole and was pretty rich with the gravy and the crust. The lean slices of meat in the pie was plentiful but got boring after a while though.

A couple of mall banana leaf nasi lemak at Nu Sentral

Bunkus Kaw Kaw, nasi lemak

Tried a few banana leaf wrapped nasi lemak from Nu Sentral (201 Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Kuala Lumpur Sentral, 50470 Kuala Lumpur).

Bunkus Kaw Kaw, nasi lemak

The one from Bungkus Kaw Kaw (Lot-44, LG Floor) wasn't fantastic. Rice didn't have much coconut richness. This tasted very kampong if you catch my drift. Serviceable but not something I'd eat again. Also no hot drinks here it seems.

Nonya Colors, Nu Sentral, Kuala Lumpur
Nonya Colors, nasi lemak

The one at Nonya Colors (L3 27) fared better with flavouring of both the rice and sambal as a whole. Hot coffee was decent. Not to also mention that there's a variety here for eats other than nasi lemak.

Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar, NU Sentral, Kuala Lumpur

Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar, with nasi minyak

We noticed Original Penang Kayu Nasi Kandar previously at Mid Valley. Seeing them again at Nu Sentral kinda piqued our interest again so here (Unit LG. 30 & 31, NU Sentral Mall, 201 Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, 50470 Kuala Lumpur) we were.

This was fried fish role, chicken korma and cabbage poriyal and telur dadar with their nasi minyak at 33.90RM. While I have been told that nasi kandar tends to be pricey, this was much more than I expected to pay. Other than the thin-nish gravy from the korma, food's generally not bad tasting. I need to either choose the dishes or location more wisely the next time.

Bala's Banana Leaf, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Bala's Banana Leaf, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Lunch at Bala's Banana Leaf (25 Lorong Ara Kiri 1, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, tel : +60 17-862 2759).

Bala's Banana Leaf, egg briyani

Portions here were...very manageable. I expected food coma inducing quantities but apparently not. Egg briyani came with some spicy sweet fruit chutney/sambal(?) which was actually kinda nice. Reminded me of the fruit chutney from the goat briyani at Dandenong Market years back. That basmati rice was also nice. Light, well spiced and packed a bit of heat. Good enough to eat on its own.

Bala's Banana Leaf, kaya egg appam

Kaya appam with egg.

Bala's Banana Leaf, banana egg appam

Banana appam with egg. Nice pisang raja-ish type of banana was used here.

Bala's Banana Leaf, carrot lassi

Interesting carrot lassi. There was an light gritty texture to the drink and a carrot aftertaste which was unmistakable.

Bala's Banana Leaf, teh halia

Teh halia was not much gingery.

Alta Cafe, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Alta Cafe, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Heard about the Alta burger from Alta Cafe (59-1 Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, tel : +60 3-2201 0725) and wanted to try it.

Alta Cafe, alta burger

Pretty decent looking with smashed patties, cheese, onions, pickles and their special sauce.

Alta Cafe, alta burger

Could have been a good cheeseburger in my books if not for an amateur's move - over saucing with that special sauce that wasn't special. That sauce ended up as the dominant flavour blanketing everything between the buns. I wanted a cheeseburger and not a sauce burger. Pity.

Noodling at Moneys Corner

Moneys Corner Kuala Lumpur

Moneys Corner (144A Jalan Vivekananda, Brickfields, 50470 Kuala Lumpur) is a food court. It's mostly out of sight from the main street. One entrance can be found along Jalan Tun Sambanthan. The red sign points the way via an alley.

Sarawak Kampua - Original Sibu Kampua Mee
Sarawak Kampua - Original Sibu Kampua Mee, noodles

Bowl of kampua mee from Sarawak Kampua - Original Sibu Kampua Mee was pretty good. Noodles are a style from Sarawak. I've had a rendition from Swan City Noodle House some time ago which seemed to be a little different. This one had tastier minced pork and much better quality char siew. Not to mention a good scatter of impressive house fried shallots. All rounded up with a bit of lardy broth in the noodles.

Peter's Pork Noodle
Peter's Pork Noodle, kuey teow with egg

I admit to judging the bowl from Peter's Pork Noodle by its nondescript appearances prior to tasting it. Was a lot better tasting than I imagined. This bowl was kuey teow with sliced and minced pork. Light savouriness and lardy in comparison to the garlicky broth from Uncle Beh Pork Noodle.
