These black sesame toasts from Coffee Break were not bad tasting. Was there any thing about them I wished was done better? Hell yeah. More butter than those measly slices would have been great.
Authenticity seems more a matter of ranges and limitations than of outright prescriptions. - Jeffrey Steingarten, The Man Who Ate Everything

Cuo Cuo You Yu (脞脞有鱼), Kopitiam @ Tiong Bahru Plaza
Came across this stall in the newly renovated Kopitiam at Tiong Bahru Plaza (#03-101 Tiong Bahru Plaza, 302 Tiong Bahru Road). While it looked like there were some variety going on with the bak chor mee on their menu, it's mostly the same stuff in a different form. Like the sambal ho liao (which has the same ingredients as what's in my soup) probably uses the same chilli for the noodles.
Chilli/sambal was deliciously piquant and the soup's pretty good. One can also sense them trying desperately to differentiate their offerings by naming their meatballs...solefish meatballs. They're not bad tasting but we've definitely had better. That being said, the chilli/sambal kinda dominated the flavour of the bowl so I'm gonna have to come back and try it without just to see what the noodles are like. This was one of those stalls where I liked the mee kia (they use the flat variety) more than the mee pok.

6th Avenue Nasi Lemak, Lengkok Bahru
6th Avenue Nasi Lemak (#01-387, 55 Lengkok Bahru) was just next door to Sim Lim Square Bak Chor Mee. Another basmati rice nasi lemak. Pretty decent tasting though I would have liked more salt in that rice to bring out the coconut flavour. For some reason, that turmeric fried chicken didn't come across as freshly fried as I would have imagined at 8-ish in the morning. Not bad tasting though.
What I thought paired nicely was the sweet sambal, which wasn't annoyingly sweet, with the rice.

Hong Kee Beef Noodle (桐記牛肉粿條), Amoy Street Food Centre
What I was looking forward to this trip down to Amoy Street Food Centre was Teochew Beef Kway Teow but for some reasons, they were closed on a weekday. 😞
So Hong Kee Beef Noodle (#01-42 Amoy Street Food Centre, 7 Maxwell Road). Soup kuey teow with tendons. I liked it. Tendons were tender with bounciness and the broth was moderately beefy with some tanginess that it felt light. Drained the bowl.

Revisiting Golden Rooster
It was so long ago that I was last here. While I wanted to pick on a few items from their menu, I also really wanted to relive the barbequed chicken again so here's the half chicken with rice. Chicken rice! Looking back at what I wrote about them previously, it seemed that nothing has changed. That chicken was still deliciously tender and I liked the rice with that chilli. Prices have gone up a modest $2.40 in the past 14.5 years. I need to come back here more often.

What about the prata at Ali Fatimah Food Stall?
I guess it's because they're light and not excessively crispy or greasy with a level of chewiness I like.
