Bibi's Popiah, NU Sentral, Kuala Lumpur

Bibi's Popiah, NU Sentral, Kuala Lumpur

We were recommended to try Bibi's Popiah (Lot LG.44, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lum, 201 Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, 50470 Kuala Lumpur) for their poh piah. The Vulcan Post did a write up about a collab they did for a RM2,888 roll. Said write up mentioned their history from Ipoh, citing perfection of the recipes, fresh home made ingredients and all the usual fluff. Not feeling all of it from this stall run by a few dudes. 5 in fact, who looked totally bored and couldn't wait to get off work.

Bibi's Popiah, poh piah

Anyways, I haven't a clue how these poh piah were supposed to be like. Tried a regular roll and a seaweed roll. Did not taste bad. Savoury with nice stewed turnip and lots of crispy bits.

The skin (wrapper) was different from the the dry variety that I was expecting though. These were soft and chewy and totally fell apart when we tried to pick them up which kinda defeated the purpose of getting them into rolls. Didn't dislike them but I did not think they were good enough to come back for.

Bibi's Popiah, chee cheong fun

Chee cheong fun's not bad tasting. Love how the fried shallots added their aroma to the rice sweetened rolls.

Pizza Mansion, Jalan Mesui, Kuala Lumpur

Pizza Mansion, Jalan Mesui, Kuala Lumpur

Came across Pizza Mansion (25 Jalan Mesui, Bukit Bintang, 50200 Kuala Lumpur) by chance.

Pizza Mansion, clam pizza

Tried their clam pizza. Kept expectations low. Pretty edible. Double the clams and much more dill would have made it respectable. The amount of dill was barely garnish level. Also, not big on the crust.

Pizza Mansion, lamb bolognese

Lamb bolognese tasted cheap. The tomato sauce was tart; tasted like it was mostly concentrate. No flavour coming from the lamb at all in both the sauce and the actual mince meat. Minced meat portions in the sauce were lean and paltry. That's just sad.

Now we know which pizza shop to stay away from.

Rawtee, HSBC Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Rawtee, HSBC Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

We found out about Rawtee (33 Jalan Sultan Ismail, Bukit Bintang, 50250 Kuala Lumpur) from social media. Their focaccia sandwiches looked pretty good online. Now that we've tried it, I'd have to admit that their ingredients were generally pretty good quality.

Rawtee, agnello pesto

That being said, they were also more style than substance. Like that lamb pesto sandwich above - couldn't taste any lamb from the sparse bits of meat. The other one with figs and beef had just that bit of discernible sweetness from the fruit. Couldn't tell that there were figs inside. The ingredients for that one was made for optics. Most of the flavour from the sandwich were actually feta cheese and pesto.

Beef Croissan'wich from BK's breakfast

Burger King, beef croissan'wich

The picture of the croissan'wich on the menu looked a bit better than this. I got it because this wasn't available in the BK in Singapore. Tasted like how it looked - beef patty, omelette and cheese between a lightly buttery croissant wannabe. For how much they charged, I couldn't complain.

Nasi lemak from KFC

KFC, nasi lemak

Finally got to try the nasi lemak from KFC in Malaysia after hearing so much about them. It's a little bit disappointing after the anticipation. Don't think I'll be looking forward to them after this time, but at least now we know.

KFC, nasi lemak

This looked like a mozzarella ball or a badly peeled egg. It's the latter if anyone was actually wondering. 😂 Rice was coconut infused for sure but not well salted and hence, not savoury. Sambal's sweet, ikan bilis-y and garlicky. Did not enjoy the chicken breast. Jollibee is beyond them now.

Aki's Kohi 秋, Jalan Pudu Impian, Kuala Lumpur

Headed to Aki's Kohi (Lot 2-00-07, Ground Floor, D'alamanda Pudu Ulu Impian IV Jalan Pudu Impian, 56100 Cheras, Kuala Lumpur 56100, tel : +60 16-301 8087) after Char Siew Yoong which was just a couple of minutes walk away.

Decor's warm minimalist with wood and whites.

Aki's Kohi 秋, black rose soda

Pretty good black rose soda. A robust black infused with rose and soda water. 👍🏼

Aki's Kohi 秋, peach latte

This was an off menu peach latte I think. Smooth finish with discernible peachiness in a light milk coffee. Not bad.
