Revisiting The Stamford Brasserie

The Stamford Brasserie, Swissôtel The Stamford

Back at The Stamford Brasserie for a dinner of pastries, savouries and sweets.

The Stamford Brasserie, coffee praline croissant

Coffee praline croissant.

The Stamford Brasserie, coffee praline croissant

Nice milky coffee cream filling inside the layered pastry. Not overly sweet too. 👍🏼

The Stamford Brasserie, pork sausage

Snail pork sausage with a delicious caramelized onion gravy. Love the meaty sausage. Those creamy pappardelle-like things on top were sheets of potatoes. Tangy like a potato salad and also a little crunchy.

The Stamford Brasserie, seared halibut

Seared halibut in amandine sauce was ethereal and buttery under the crispy skin.

The Stamford Brasserie, manjari chocolate rabbit anise cherry compote

Manjari chocolate rabbit which had an anise scented cherry compote and no rabbit meat. 😏 Not bad.

Oriental Kopi, Bugis Junction

Oriental Kopi, Bugis Junction

Queue's pretty long at the local Oriental Kopi (#02-50 Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street). While I normally balk at joining such a queue, I ended up it it. Was about an hour before we got seated.

Oriental Kopi, royal chocolate ice

Iced Royal Chocolate was awesome. Thick, sweet and rich chocolate that coats the oesophagus going down.

Oriental Kopi, cham grass jelly ice

Ice cham cincau also pretty good tasting.

Oriental Kopi, bolo bun

Tried their bolo bun.

Oriental Kopi, bolo bun

The two slices of butter and shot of condensed milk goes into the hot bun.

Oriental Kopi, bolo bun

Nice. Warm, crumbly and a sweet butteriness.

Oriental Kopi, briyani chicken rendang

Briyani's decent. Tasted lots of raisins in the rice. What I did not enjoy of this was the rendang from the chicken which had a sweetness that threw off the savouriness of the briyani.

Oriental Kopi, kampung mee hoon

Deliciously savoury/salty mee hoon with their ayam berempah.

Oriental Kopi, tea

Teh's decent.

Oriental Kopi, coffee

Kopi's also decent.

More rolls from Cinnabon

Cinnabon, mini pistachio mochibon
Cinnabon, mini pistachio mochibon

The hot mochi inside was sticky soft and kinda nice with the pistachio cream for this roll.

Cinnabon, mini dark chocolate peanutbon
Cinnabon, mini dark chocolate peanutbon

Peanut buttery and chocolate-y at the same time. Pretty good.

Prawn noodle from Sin Kian Heng Minced Meat Noodle (新建興肉脞面)

Sin Kian Heng Minced Meat Noodle (新建興肉脞面), prawn noodle

Noticed someone eating prawn noodles the last time we were here so we decided to try it today. They were out of the bigger prawns today so we couldn't get those.

Sin Kian Heng Minced Meat Noodle (新建興肉脞面), prawn noodle

Soup from the dry prawn noodles came with an assortment of pork parts like ribs, lard and sweet intestines. Bowl's oil rich and pretty tasty.

Sin Kian Heng Minced Meat Noodle (新建興肉脞面), prawn noodle

Some of the prawns were pretty tiny.

Mee pok portion was kinda puny as well. Flavour's not lacking from the saucing and chilli for sure though.

Kosong + extra egg from Shiok Hokkien Mee

Shiok Hokkien Mee, kosong extra egg

That'll be extra chilli on the side as well. Shiok Hokkien Mee has a kosong option which omits the proteins normally included in each plate...namely the prawns, squid and pork belly. Flavour's as good as the regular plate.

Italian Osteria X, Crawford Lane

Italian Osteria X, Crawford Lane

Read about Italian Osteria X (#01-09, 463 Crawford Lane) and the quality food they serve at good prices. Allegedly. We were curious and wanted to find out.

Italian Osteria X, Crawford Lane

Eatery's a one man show.

Italian Osteria X, salumi

Ordered some salumi. Prosciutto, salami and coppa I think.

Italian Osteria X, salumi

Not bad cold cuts. Pretty good eating with their bread Don't know what the dry crumbly hard cheese was though. Did not taste exactly like Parmigiano Reggiano. Proprietor doesn't know what cheese it was as well.

Italian Osteria X, bread

I don't know exactly what bread it was they did. It was served piping hot with pretty soft chewy innards. Tasted half baked. I liked it. But there wasn't enough to go around. Even after we asked for more.

Italian Osteria X, risotto milanese

Risotto Milanese has a few main flavours from their ingredients that's prominent. Saffron is the most obvious. Secondary to that is cheese/butter which provides the richness and salt in the stock for the rice. Following that is diced onions. Kinda easy to tell if any of those are inadequate.

This one tasted like a saffron porridge, not so much risotto. Stock lacked robustness and salt. Not enough cheese or cream so it was also a little thin. Thinking about how much more enjoyable places like La Nonna, No Menu or the defunct Ristorante da Valentino makes theirs when I'm eating this one is symptomatic of how unsatisfied I am with the current, no?

Italian Osteria X, spaghetti bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese looked good. Flavour was livery which made me wonder if there was actual minced liver. What it lacked was salt from cheese. We asked about having more cheese and the proprietor mentioned something about cutting cost. Which is fair and fine and his right to do so. I would have preferred that he charged more and made it delicious than to scrimp over his most effective flavour agent used in cooking.
