Back at the Funan branch of Mei Heung Yuen Dessert. I realized a few things here. Only the black sesame and almond paste came from the heated pot. The other stuff like their peanut paste and ginger steamed egg were gotten from a fridge somewhere in the back and microwaved on order. The initial mouthful had a nice black sesame flavour but that seemed to fade off pretty quick in subsequent spoons. Odd.
Authenticity seems more a matter of ranges and limitations than of outright prescriptions. - Jeffrey Steingarten, The Man Who Ate Everything

Black sesame paste from Mei Heung Yuen Dessert (味香园甜品)
Bizen Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse, Funan
Our first visit to Bizen here (#B2-22 Funan, 107 North Bridge Road, tel : +65 6970 0481).
I've been curious for a long while now about the delmonico cut. From what I was able to glean, it's a cut that originated in the mid 1800s by Delmonico's in New York and it seems that no one was about to ascertain which part of the cow it came from. Wiki states that it can be prepared from various cuts and it's usually ribeye. Different sources (which probably aren't authoritative) have their own definitions so trying to define it here feels like I'm grasping at straws so I'm not going there. Pretty sure this one was a ribeye. 300g. Not thick cut.
Meat's really tender and has good marbling. We finished this with a smile on our faces. Note to self : don't get the coleslaw next time. It's not the same coleslaw as Astons.
Tried their Zeppin burger. From the description and looks, it's a half pounder with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, bacon and a fried egg. And some brown sauce which wasn't half bad.
Pretty large and unwieldy with either the bun flopping or the insides slipping out through the eating so the construct wasn't good. Meat's dry-ish and somewhere between medium well and well done. Not so different from a Quarter Pounder from McD. Would have been nice if they had lettuce-ed it up pretty like Shake Shack but I guess they probably thought it would cost too much. Tomato didn't add to it but the onions did their job cutting through the rest of the burger with their sharpness.
Will not get it again.
There's free ice cream. Seems to be similar to the one from Haidilao. The lime flavour's good.

Double side plaster from Jom Makan Prata Saga Sambal Berlada
Back at Jom Makan Prata Saga Sambal Berlada. Damn that name's a mouthful. Will just stick to Prata Saga Sambal Berlada in the future. Tried the double side plaster which I presume was a plaster prata with an egg plastered on both sides. No molten yolk on this one. Tasted like how it looked. Asked for extra sambal on the side and fish curry today. 👍🏼

Sando, Alexandra Technopark
Have been wanting to check out Sando (#01-04/04A The Hub, Alexandra Technopark, 438C Alexandra Road) for a while. We were there on a Saturday that happened to be raining pretty heavily. The place felt almost serene hidden from easy access.
Dirty hojicha - drinkable. Wouldn't bother with it again since neither hojicha nor coffee were particularly strong or outstanding.
The ingredient listing on the menu for the hake sando sounded good but in the end, I only tasted the fish, tartar sauce and the blueberry chilli jam. Fish reminded me of the most popular fish sandwich you could think of and we're probably thinking the same. Would love for this to have more of the blueberry chilli jam for the hot and sticky sweet feel but that's me. 😂 Not bad.

Generation Coffee, Tekka Food Centre
This was a Spanish latte from the branch of Generation Coffee at Tekka Market (#01-273 Tekka Market & Food Centre, 665 Buffalo Road). Did not taste like the one I had previously from Yugoslavia Bakery. Couldn't even tell that there was condensed milk in this cup. Like that one, it's also not the type for a first cuppa of the day. Tasted just like regular latte to me.
Thai milk tea wasn't robust. To be fair, it did taste like cha ron. A paler shade of a proper one in my opinion. I feel that the strength of flavour is important and this one did not do it for me.

Naga Indian Food Stall, Tekka Food Centre
My attention was drawn to this stall (#01-273 Tekka Market & Food Centre, 665 Buffalo Road) in our previous trips to Tekka Market's food centre from the platters of food in the neighbouring table. Got myself an order of idly for breakfast today and it turned out delicious like I was hoping for. The accompanying chutneys were pretty good; one of the better ones in food centres.
There's kesari - that's part of breakfast too. Love that it wasn't excessively sweet amidst that ghee and saffron flavours.
