There were a couple of stalls selling satay in the food centre and we ended up getting some from Zaiton Satay (#01-14 Adam Road Food Centre, 2 Adam Road). Their satay weren't as caramelized as I would have preferred so some texture and flavour were missing without those carcinogenic burnt ends. Heh! Still, they were pretty tender and moreish with the sweet marinade - notably the mutton ones which were better tasting than what I had imagined. Liked that the viscous dip had sufficient crushed peanuts.

Getting cheesy at Tokyo Sundubu
I didn't think that I could definitively discern the mentaiko from the bowl I had the last time so I went straight for just the cheese sundubu with extra cheese. It's one portion more of that shredded mozzarella.
Today's namuru was different. I was thinking that these things don't get changed up but apparently they do. The vegetables for this round were pretty peppery.
Didn't look like there was that much cheese even after that extra portion but it was enough to manage some stringy cheese pulls.
Like I mentioned the last time, it was a better idea to just get the rice into the sundubu pot and eat after mixing.
Tried their potato cheese chijimi. Loved those crispy crusty edges which were not very salty. The pancakes had slices of potato in them so that was mostly what they tasted of. This turned out better than I had imagined. Wouldn't mind them again.

Egg ghee thosai from Hajjah R.S.A.
So I got the egg ghee thosai today from Hajjah R.S.A. instead of two separate thosais like I did the last time. It felt less substantial but I guess that's what I wanted because I remembered getting two felt like a bit much. Also pretty sure that there was more ghee flavour in the ghee thosai then than this combo one with the egg. The masala vadai though... it's fried chicken good. 😬

Lamb brains and masala tea at Adam Road Food Centre
Got myself a bowl of brains and meat kambing soup from Bahrakath. I wanted the ribs but they weren't ready for the day so I settled for meat which were also pretty good because they were tender and sitting in that smooth creamy warmth from the spices in the soup.
I remember them being called Bahrakath Mutton Soup King but it seems that the king has been taken out from the name of the stall.
Here's a local masala tea from Thajudeen Teh Tarik (#01-12) a couple of stalls away. Not a bad teh but I couldn't for some reasons put a finger to the spices they used for their masala.

Mee kia from Tai Wah Pork Noodle (大華肉脞麵)
Here's a $7 bowl of mee kia from Tai Wah Pork Noodle (大華肉脞麵). Pretty much the same as the mee pok bowl I had the last time except for the noodles. While the mee kia wasn't soggy, it also didn't have the wiry bite I was hoping for. Will stick to the mee pok in the future.

Back at The Hainan Story Chapter One
It was sometime middle of last year that we last/first ate at The Hainan Story Chapter One. Food was not bad so we've been wanting to come back again to try more stuff. I've only recently realized that they're open 24 hrs.
Hainanese styled coffee & toasts are a thing here but I've never had this particular combination of spreads. Gula melaka kaya with "rojak jam" - the latter would probably resonate more clearly as rojak sauce to most. Could taste the flavour from the ginger flower and chilli in there. Not a combination we've had before but I kinda liked it.
We wanted to try their Hainanese lamb stew the last time but we didn't have any more room. We ordered it this time.
Chunks of tender lamb were hidden at the bottom of the claypot beneath the lamb infused gravy that was really good with the rice. For a local Chinese styled lamb dish, I'd rank it tops because it wasn't adulterated with herbs and ginger like what many local Chinese lamb dishes are. Man I'd come back just for this. For some reasons, they undercooked the broccoli.
Chicken satay was not bad. Pretty tender and nicely charred.
There was a CNY chicken cordon bleu made stuffed with bak kwa between the cheese and what appeared to be mille feuille slices of chicken served with the same tamarind pineapple sauce that they use for their satay. Ordered it out of curiosity. Pretty greasy, not bad tasting but also not something I'd get again.
Banana cake was ordinary.
Egg tart's pleasant. I normally prefer something with more volume. This one had a biscuit crust and was pretty shallow but there was enough of the custard to taste them properly.
