No Ordinary Chicken, Beo Crescent Food Centre

Masala Kitchen has quietly folded just as it had appeared and in its place, is No Ordinary Chicken (#01-81 Beo Cresecent Food Centre, 38A Beo Crescent). They're technically a chicken rice stall, albeit not of the common local chicken rice variety that most of us are familiar with. What they do here is mostly grilled chicken for now with a variety of options for sauces/toppings accompanied with steamed white rice and a chilled salad on the side.

This topping was the shallot which was in all likelihood their rendition of sambal matah because I couldn't see it being inspired by anything else. Dominant flavour is lemongrass and onions. There's tanginess with a subtle sweetness and savoury oil richness. I kinda enjoyed this.

Sliced pork belly and beef balls in milky pickled vegetable soup bee hoon from GO Noodle House

This was from the branch at 313. 

Love the beefiness from the gristly beef balls. Just can't see myself ordering anything else than this milky pickled vegetable soup anytime in the near future.

Maccha House, Orchard Central

Dropped by Maccha House (B1-40 Orchard Central, 181 Orchard Road, tel : +65 6636 5830) for nibbles.

Tried their sausage & mozzarella corndog because...I don't think I've had a corndog before and this was a good time as any to try. Kinda tasted like how I imagined it would. Didn't expect sugar. Felt kinda Korean. What I also didn't see coming was that only half that dog had the sausage with the other half being just cheese. One would think that it would be cheese covered sausage inside but no.

It was precisely what the menu depicted. 😔

Matcha tiramisu's not bad tasting. Wasn't very sweet and had plenty of matcha flavour coming through. Portion was pretty small though.

Matcha latte's also kinda nice. Milky and matcha-y with a pleasant light sweetness served piping hot.

Biscoff ban chang kueh from Munchi Pancakes

Here's an admission. This was in probability my first Biscoff flavoured anything. I've had the cookie, just never other stuff with its flavour. I liked this Biscoff pancake from Munchi Pancakes (B2-22/23/24 Guoco Tower, 1 Wallich Street, tel : +65 8312 6203) though and enough that I've come back for it a second time. 😬

Crispy garlic spice beef bibimbap from Sukiya (すき家)

Sukiya has brought back their bibimbap again and I wanted to try the crispy garlic spice beef bowl which I missed previously. I had the idea that there would be cloves of garlic in it from the picture on the menu but turns out that there wasn't any at all. Just some spicy garlic bits which weren't extraordinarily spicy or garlicky. The ratio of rice to the other ingredients were off compared to a proper one. Would have been great if there were more toppings/vegetables to "balance" that ratio but it was a quick fix and did the job.

Passion fruit soba from Healthy Soba IKI

There's a newly featured passion fruit soba at Healthy Soba IKI (一, 二, 三, 四, 五, 六, 七, 八, 九, 十, 十一, 十二, 十三, 十四, 十五, 十六, 十七, 十八, 十九, 二十, 二十一) this month. It also appears that one of their previous seasonal, the ichijiku raimu soba, has made it to a regular item on their menu. Woohoo!

The passion fruit came in the form of passion fruit jellies which accompanied the noodles in lemon infused tsuyu. Pretty refreshing. The only thing I didn't enjoy much were the stringy pieces of chicken breast.

Those passion fruit jellies are also making appearances in their toasted buckwheat burrata!
