Recent bowl from Authentic Teochew Tradition Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle. With vinegar, no sambal and spruced with the heat from the sliced red chilli. The taste profile was kinda reminding me of the bowls from Liang Seng Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle. Must be the sauce from the braised mushrooms.
Authenticity seems more a matter of ranges and limitations than of outright prescriptions. - Jeffrey Steingarten, The Man Who Ate Everything

Revisiting the yang zhou fried rice at See Sean Rice Stall (时鲜饭店)
Been a while since we've had the yang zhou fried rice from See Sean Rice Stall. It's as tasty as I remember. I don't know if I can actually recall any local styled fried rice that's as good or better at this price point. Will be back to explore beyond their fried rice territory.

Bee hoon from Ah Seng Teo Chew Minced Meat Noodle (亞誠潮州肉脞面)
Finally got to try the bee hoon bowl from Ah Seng Teo Chew Minced Meat Noodle. Was a lot lighter than I imagined compared to mee kia or mee pok. Beyond textural differences, it was the same vinegary taste like the previous bowls.
Really tender fishballs.

Boon Heng Atas Roasted Delight (文兴 港式烧腊), People's Park Food Centre
Boon Heng Atas Roasted Delight (#01-1150 People’s Park Food Centre, 32 New Market Road) is the stall at the corner of the section where most people are having mala xiang guo. They're apparently a multi branched brand. The char siew (半肥瘦) rice was easily one of the better ones I recall from recent times. Sticky sweet, caramel-y and with partially melty flavourful fat layers. Kinda in the same leagues as Shun Feng Roasted Delights. Rice was also moist and tender. Will come back again.

Dalila's Kitchen, Ubi
Malay food stall located at the same coffeeshop (Wong Poh Kopitiam, 3004 Ubi Ave 3) as 威胜碳烤烧腊 and Wan Li Xiang Chicken Rice. Got myself some spinach, sambal goreng and assam stingray. Stingray was chunky and not bad tasting. 👍🏼

Hengli Kampung Nasi Lemak Nasi Padang (恒利甘榜椰漿飯), Hong Lim Food Centre
Have noticed Hengli Nasi Lemak Nasi Padang (#02-69 Hong Lim Food Centre, 531A Upper Cross Street) pretty much every time we're at Hong Lim. Was intrigued and have made a mental note to try their food and that's been simmering in for a long while until now.
Bee hoon was slightly peppery and had a sweetness that bothered me. I was looking forward to just savoury. Not gonna get that again. But the cabbage was nicely cooked with some crunch and that meaty fried chicken was deliciously salty infused with flavour from turmeric.

Duck confit from Eddy's
Yes, it's that same Eddy's which has shifted from the previous location to the current space (#02-13 Hong Lim Food Centre, 531A Upper Cross Street). Their duck confit was mentioned often so I thought I'd give it a go. Meat's tender, nicely browned and pretty decent tasting with that brown sauce. Not as salty as I had imagined. I thought I tasted rosemary. That aglio olio it was resting on was garlicky with a nice bit of heat.

Dong Dong Hainanese Chicken Rice (東東海南雞飯), People's Park Food Centre
Came across Dong Dong Hainanese Chicken Rice (#01-1110 People’s Park Food Centre, 32 New Market Road) in a recent trip to People's Park. They're apparently a small chain run by the group with brands like Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo and Steamed Society/Gourmet under their umbrella.
There's a pretty distinctive sesame oil flavour in their saucing for the chicken. Bird was slurp off the bone tender. Rice was a little light on the salt which meant that it's easier pairing with their garlicky lime-y chilli. I thought the pandan-y cabbage/chicken soup was pleasant. Don't mind coming back.

Kian Meng Kway Chap • Pig's Organ Soup (健民), Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre
We've noticed Kian Meng Kway Chap (#02-097 Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre, 31 Commonwealth Crescent) in our visits to Commonwealth Crescent and have been wanting to try them for a while. Finally happened.
We had a plate with pig's skin, intestines, stomach, tongue, tau kwa and eggs - meat and offal were pretty tender and well infused with the flavour of the braising sauce. Broth leaned towards a slightly more herbal flavour. Nicely done here. Will come back.

Chicken rice from Shun Feng Roasted Delights (顺沣港式烧腊)
That's chicken rice with char siew. 😬 Not bad tasting per se and nice lime-y garlicky chilli. The one I prefer and think is better in this vicinity is still Fu Xiang Chicken Rice.

Five Guys, ION Orchard
Haven't had Five Guys in quite a while. This was our first time at the ION branch (B3-24/25/26 ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn). Seems like one can make their burgers a meal these days. See that? They're finally assimilating. Just remember that it starts from $25.50 and doesn't necessary cost just $25.50. I had to top up for the shake.
The small portions of fries are still large. Not complaining here. They oversalted today.
So I found out you can ask for hot sauce from them on the side. Now I know what else is good with the fries.
Banana and bacon shake was too sweet. I wonder if it's just this time. Also not tasting the bacon oils anymore, just the bacon bits.

Egg prata from Prata Galaxy
First time having prata at Prata Galaxy. Got a couple of telur. Pretty decent tasting and old school-ish style. It wasn't neither fancy nor excessively oily - attributes that I appreciated.
Fish curry was tamarind forward but not getting much/any fish flavour in there. Mutton curry's creamy and thick but not exactly infused with lamb-y flavour. That being said, they aren't deal breakers. Don't mind getting prata here if I'm in the area.

Steamed Society (蒸食会), Toa Payoh Central
Steamed Society (#01-102, 177 Toa Payoh Central) is wedged between Shun Feng Roasted Delights and Sixth Avenue Porky Prawn Noodle. Yeah, it's that same coffeeshop beside the temple. Most of their offerings are steamed stuff and soups with small plates. This was a mei cai/pickled mustard green/梅菜 meat patty on chee cheong fun with added on tau kee on the side. Saucing on the chee cheong fun was mostly soya sauce and sesame oil. Nice.

Otter & Pebbles, Sinaran Drive
We've been wanting to check out Otter & Pebbles (#01-05/07 Novena Specialist Center, 8 Sinaran Drive, tel : +65 8690 4390) for a while because some of their stuff which we spied online intrigued us.
Pineapple Americano with two extra shots on the left. Not bad tasting and packed a decent punch from both the caffeine and the fruitiness of pineapple juice. House made lychee grapefruit kombucha on the right. Noice! 👍🏼
Tried the baco mentaiko udon. Tasted much like how it looked with the creamy richness and umami from the mentaiko and seaweed. Not bad.
This was a Dutch pancake called PB & Otter. PB's prosciutto & burrata instead of peanut butter. My first Dutch pancake. Tasted much like Yorkshire pudding. So that's something I presumed to be salted maple syrup on the side. Lots of sweet and salty and creamy on top of the eggy pancake. Like. 👍🏼
Latte with miso, caramel and wasabi. The flavour was intriguing for me in a way that made me want to go back for repeated sips. Wasabi flavouring was definitely discernible but more towards the end of the swallow and not so much in your face. Not detecting the miso though.
Otter & Pebble's soufflé pancakes are apparently a thing. Somewhat. Pistachio pancake's pretty prominently featured online. Not bad tasting also. The ice cream has more pistachio flavour than the cream. Noticed that there's another one of these with blue cheese. Curious.
One week later......
Came back for the one with blue cheese called Cheese but in Blue. The blue cheese was on the foam/cream/sauce thingy on top and brûlée-d in the middle. More of that cream in between the souffle pancakes. Blue cheese flavour not intense but discernible. Not bad this one. Vanilla ice cream on the side nice. Brown stuff was crushed Biscoff.
Double C - cold chocolate with salty cheese foam. Nice.

More food from Bangalore Cafe
Back at Bangalore Cafe for more deliciousness.
Tried their chow chow bath. If anyone was wondering, a chow chow bath is a serving that consists of a khara bath and a kesari bath. Both are semolina pudding/porridge thingys. The former is savoury and while the latter is sweet and flavoured with cardamom and saffron.
Pretty good khara bath here with cashews, onions, mustard seeds and curry leaves, flavoured also with ghee.
That's the Mysuru masala dosa - also known as Mysore masala dosa. The Mysuru/Mysore version is supposed to be a bit spicier from some chutney but these don't appear to have that. These ones were stuffed with curried potatoes (maybe the spicy chutney is in here) like regular masala dosa and had noticeably more diced onions in them. Not bad.

Holland Bar L'Operetta, Lorong Mambong
Pizzeria L'Operetta shuttered at Icon Village and re-opened as Holland Bar L'Operetta (23 Lorong Mambong) in Holland Village. I remember them doing Neapolitan pizza styled pizza in the past but it did not look like those today. Something's changed.
Meatballs were nice. Coarse ground meat with some beefy flavour.
Pasta's not great. The fettuccine with lamb ragu had a red wine-ish sauce that wasn't exactly lamb-y with meat that was lean and somewhat stringy. Frutti di mare was...boring.
So the pizzas don't look Neapolitan nor taste that way. Crust wasn't puffy and the "leopard spots" were kinda missing. Toppings were decent but that quattro formaggi needs more blue cheese. With the 1 for 1 offer they have at lunch, I couldn't complain. Wouldn't look forward to paying the full price for these.

Teochew Fishball Kway Teow Mee, Hong Lim Food Centre
This bowl happened because the stall (#02-65 Hong Lim Food Centre, 531A Upper Cross Street) looked old school and reliable. Their fishball noodle has minced and sliced pork. Not a bad tasting bowl with their saucing and chilli padi. Don't mind coming back.

Curry Craft, North Bridge Road
Came across Curry Craft (#01-5041, 467 North Bridge Road). They're a stall doing Malaysian style curry noodles and yong tau foo.
They have home made achar. Not bad tasting. Their rendition includes strips of radish and long beans. Generous with the crushed peanuts too.
Tried a couple of their curry noodles. One basically picks a preferred soup (or not), noodles or rice and a protein of choice for the bowl which also comes with a raft of long beans held together by fish paste and a piece of dried beancurd sheet (tau kee). There's lamb and beef and the lamb got my attention because one doesn't normally find lamb in curry noodles here. Chilli dip on the side's sweet, sour and spicy. Nice.
Both protein were thin sliced. Lamb's nicer than the beef because the latter didn't really register much flavour as a beef. Unlike the lamb which also infused some of it's intrinsic flavour into the very drinkable savoury curry broth.
I guess this is as good a testimony as any on how much we liked it.
