Note to self: The soup rendition of pork noodles from Uncle Beh Pork Noodle was less intense and garlicky than the one from dry bowl. Gotta remember that. Still a pretty good eat though.

Some stuff from Hoshino Pancake
Stopped by Hoshino Coffee at ION (#B3-22 ION Orchard, 2 Orchard Turn, tel : +65 6509 8638). Mango pancake's nice. Odd thing was, it was the smell that caught my attention. It smelled like bananas.
There's a "Paris Brest" on menu. Did not taste anything like one. There's barely any hazelnut flavour. Instead of praline, there's just real nuts stuck on top of the pastry. This was merely a cream puff that may or may not have looked like a Paris Brest.

Piadini Italian Streats, 111 Somerset
From the story that's been told, the owner of this stall (01-K8, 111 Somerset, 111 Somerset Road) was impressed much by the piadina that she previously had in Rome that she set up shop here selling them.
Got the one with Gorgonzola. Did not expect lettuce in there because the menu only mentioned arugula. Sadly, I couldn't taste much of the Gorgonzola. The crushed nuts in the piadina didn't taste particularly fresh as well. Didn't even notice the olive oil or balsamic vinegar that's supposed to be in it. Kinda disappointing.

Some breakfast from ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant
Breakfasting at ABC Multi Cuisine Restaurant. Teh halia's fine and the Nescafe tarik didn't look like it went through much tarik-ing. I like these beverages better from Umar Ali Cafe next door because they're made better in my not so humble opinion.
Okay-ish roti banjir. It's not a bad rendition but I prefer Umar Ali's because that one was more umami from the dalcha and fish curry. This one had a sweet sambal.
Their mutton dosa/thosai used rice flour with little fermentation. It's apparent from the taste.
I got this because they mentioned that the mutton they used was keema. This set my expectations looking forward to only keema. Did not expect the eggs and shredded red onions inside. Suspect this might have been what they put in their murtabak. Didn't think much of this because I found the onions disruptive for both taste and texture.

Takumi Sakaba, Holland Village Shopping Centre
Ended up here (#03-28 Holland Village Shopping Centre, 211 Holland Avenue, tel : +65 8843 6765) because I didn't feel like queueing at Tsujiki Kaisendon below. Looks like they're trying to be an izakaya.
Pitan tofu was nice, creamy and chilled. Could have been dessert.
There's a motsu nikomi which featured tendon, tripe, shin and maybeeee....brisket. Not sure about the last one. But this was pretty delicious.
I've been avoiding shellfish for sushi/sashimi. This might be the first time I'm having hokkigai and akagai in a while. Not as rubbery as I imagined but I it did remind me why I don't order them. Not much flavour going on and quite chewy. The best things in this Nanairo don was the salmon, ikura and ankimo.
Okay-ish hamachi kamayaki. Kinda small methinks.
Maybe I'll just join the queue in Tsujiki Kaisendon and see if I like them better.

Wild grouper in laksa soup from Hai Kah Lang (海脚人)
I enjoyed this as much I as the tom yam broth from the last time. This laksa broth wasn't the thick Peranakan variety obviously. It's thinner, still flavourful and very drinkable. At least for me it was. I'm starting to feel that the soup from them is the thing to look forward to rather than the fish.

Hokkaido aburi cheese katsu from Tonkatsu by Ma Maison
I was initially thinking that the aburi cheese katsu had made a return but I realised that they called it Hokkaido aburi cheese katsu this time round. I'm not sure what was the difference between this and last year's version but the cheese topping beneath the torched surface was a lot creamier than the last time. Heart cloggingly delicious. The actual katsu looked better than their product shot.

Ghee onion rava masala dosa from Saravanaa Bhavan and......
More breakfasting at Saravanaa Bhavan. Pretty good ghee onion rava masala dosa. There's coriander in it which had its flavour cooked out so woohoo! Loads of crunch and nice flavour from the black peppercorn in the dosa.
The yummy uppuma of theirs was as yummy as before.

Hvala, Ngee Ann City/Takashimaya
First time at Hvala (#B2-28, 391 Orchard Road).
I'm not sure how I feel about the yuzu warabi mochi. I didn't dislike it but I'm also not sure that I did like it. Maybe it's because I've never had it citrus fruit flavoured. The yuzu flavour was pretty prominent. One also doesn't get the same consistency as those from Warabimochi Kamakura which I like better.
This was....probiotic apple matcha. Apple juice and green tea. Not bad.

Junior Kuppanna, Kitchener Road
I remember seeing the long queues outside Junior Kuppanna at Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur the last time I was there. This was the local branch at Little India (161 Kitchener Road, tel : +65 9235 5116)
Mutton briyani. Full portion. Seeraga Samba rice is used here.
Not bad tasting. Ample warm flavour from the spices in the rice. Mutton was tender but dry-ish. Half of mine were bones.
Chicken briyani. Half portion. Also not bad tasting. Flavour's a little different because of the meat. Like the other briyani, the protein was tender but dry-ish.
Note to self: Raita has coriander hidden inside.
A couple of curries came with the briyani. The chicken one was spicy, coconut-y and delicious.
Their gobi 65 was nice. Cauliflower florets were coated in a deliciously savoury crisp batter.

Eisbein and seabream from Brotzeit
There's a North Sea menu at Brotzeit which caught our attention recently.
But first affensaft mango. Affensaft, I venture, is a German equivalent of shandy. Came across the mention of it being called monkey juice. No monkeys were used as far as I could tell. So this was weissbier with mango juice. No monkeys.
The mango flavour was initially faint and got stronger close to the end because the juice ended up mostly at the bottom of the glass.
What intrigued me was their eisbein - or boiled pork knuckles. Tasted kinda like how I imagined. Tender, easily off the bone and still very meaty with some bite to them. Those sauerkraut definitely helped. Potatoes were nice.
The menu mentioned grilled seabream but this appeared to be fried. Anyways, fish was pretty good tasting with firm and flaky meat. Potato salad was nice and tangy.

初二 lunch from Hajah Maimunah @ Jalan Pisang
Been a while since we last ate at Hajah Maimunah. 初二 of CNY was a good time as any and it also coincidentally marked the last day of their operations for this location before it will be closed for a month to focus on tingkat deliveries during the Ramadan period.
The food has mostly been good pretty much every time we're here - barring occasional inconsistencies which aren't common. We've had most if not all of these dishes before so there won't be much to say.
Except maybe for the terung belado which was squishy and tender. Nice with that belado salsa.
Perhaps just a reminder to self that we'll need to break out of the routine stuff once in a while...
...like their paru belado which I don't want to say no to. 😂
Today's assam pedas ikan pari was nicer than the last time. Stingray meat was less stiff.
We finished with some lopes and a green bean soup with coconut milk
