Miyazaki gyu katsu and flavoured vegetable katsu from Ginza Anzu (あんず)

Ginza Anzu (あんず), Great World

I was drawn in by the Miyazaki gyu katsu offering from Ginza Anzu even though our previous experiences with gyu katsu in general hasn't been all that great. Pretty glad we did.

Ginza Anzu (あんず), miyazaki gyu katsu

I don't know if it was because of the Miyazaki wagyu or just adequate salting of the meat, but this was way more enjoyable than any of the previous ones we've had. These cutlets were sufficiently savoury and beefy that none of the dips were necessary. It's pretty good with their wasabi though.

Admittedly, only the center few pieces were nice and pink. The ones at the edges were more well done.

Ginza Anzu (あんず), flavoured vegetables katsu

Something here called flavoured vegetables katsu - which was odd because it included an ebi katsu in it as well. One consisted of strips of gobo, another had pumpkin wrapped in cabbage leaves and there were a couple cherry tomato katsu as well. Lots of crunch from the former two items. These vegetable katsus weren't bad tasting.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle 2025

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, Crawford Lane

Today's line was almost an hour despite not looking very long. More than triple the duration compared to the last time. 😬 For the first time, I experienced a confusing queue system. There were supposed to be two queues as described on the signage at front of the stall. The first is for order and the second is for collection.

The second queue doesn't exist in actuality. One joins the single queue which contains a mix of orderers and collectors. You get beckoned to head up to the front where the second queue is supposed to be when they are ready to take your order. After the order is done, you join that single queue again. I don't really understand how this works for them.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, bak chor mee

The biggest bowl is $15 now.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, bak chor mee

Still delicious. I just noticed for the first time also that their meatballs aren't the stinky kind.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, bak chor mee

Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is easily at the top of my list for bak chor mee but my frequency is probably like once every couple of years. I think. Because the location is never in the way and I typically do not enjoy squandering my life in queues.

Revisiting NamNam

NamNam, Raffles City

Back at NamNam.

NamNam, goi cuon

Decent gỏi cuốn.

NamNam, pomelo salad

This be gỏi bưởi tôm thịt- I don't know how to pronounce it. It's a pomelo salad.

NamNam, pomelo salad

Pretty refreshing from the pomelo and a good squeeze of lime.

NamNam, truffle chilled wagyu pho

Chilled truffled wagyu phở. We swished the slices of wagyu in the broth ate them on their own. Pricey bowl but the beef was delicious.

NamNam, saigon breakfast

Something called Saigon breakfast. Kinda like a deconstructed bánh mì on a hot pan with eggs, sausages, pate and some...luncheon meat? Sweetness from the sauce and caramelised onions broke the monotony of the rest of the items which I felt were a little light handed with the salt. Would have also been nice if there was more pate than that sad little scoop. Not bad tasting as a whole though.

NamNam, passionfruit lemon tea avocado coffee

Passionfruit lemon tea's pretty good. The other was avocado coffee which wasn't that creamy.

Mee kia from SK Noodle House

SK Noodle House, mee kia

$5.50 hae mee kia from SK Noodle House. That's a dollar up from the regular portion at $4.50. Nets a bit more prawn and sliced pork. Noodle quantity does not appear to be any different.

Breakfast from Rasa Raja Bojun (රස රජ බොජුන්)

Rasa Raja Bojun (රස රජ බොජුන්), roti

Noticed these round roti from Rasa Raja Bojun and got a couple of them for breakfast along with some quail eggs. Texture of the roti was dense, somewhat bready and lightly salted. I liked them with the lentils and spiced coconut.

Rasa Raja Bojun (රස රජ බොජුන්), quail eggs

Sambal for the quail eggs didn't pack a lot of heat and had a tomato-y flavour to them.

Revisiting The Stamford Brasserie

The Stamford Brasserie, Swissôtel The Stamford

Back at The Stamford Brasserie for a dinner of pastries, savouries and sweets.

The Stamford Brasserie, coffee praline croissant

Coffee praline croissant.

The Stamford Brasserie, coffee praline croissant

Nice milky coffee cream filling inside the layered pastry. Not overly sweet too. 👍🏼

The Stamford Brasserie, pork sausage

Snail pork sausage with a delicious caramelized onion gravy. Love the meaty sausage. Those creamy pappardelle-like things on top were sheets of potatoes. Tangy like a potato salad and also a little crunchy.

The Stamford Brasserie, seared halibut

Seared halibut in amandine sauce was ethereal and buttery under the crispy skin.

The Stamford Brasserie, manjari chocolate rabbit anise cherry compote
The Stamford Brasserie, manjari chocolate rabbit anise cherry compote

Manjari chocolate rabbit which had an anise scented cherry compote and no rabbit meat. 😏 Not bad.
