Thailicious Boat Noodles (泰好吃), Liang Seah Street

Thailicious Boat Noodles

Came over to try the boat noodles and other food after reading about them (#01-01, 8 Liang Seah Street, tel : +65 6917 9857) online.

Thailicious Boat Noodles - boat noodles

We were prepared that this would never be as flavourful and rich as the ones we've had in Bangkok because of the lack of a particular ingredient that cannot be imported here. True enough, this wasn't as robustly flavoured those. This one had pork and beef. Flavour was not bad. A little sweet, a little herbal and beefy. I suppose it's the closest we can get to the real thing here.

The sliced beef shank was tender, unlike the cold ones that one normally gets for appetizers in Chinese restaurants.

Thailicious Boat Noodles - tom yum egg noodles

Tried their tom yum egg noodles which we were told wasn't spicy. Which was odd. But it turned out to be spicy. The flavour was somewhat nutty and sweet as well, not like tom yum as we were used to. They were generous with the minced pork. Noodle texture was nice.

Thailicious Boat Noodles - mango salad

We ordered a less spicy mango salad. Quite spicy still. I'm seeing a pattern there. Not bad. But too bad they didn't have crushed peanuts lying around to make it better. Loved those cashews.

Thailicious Boat Noodles - cabbage fish sauce eggs crab meat

This was cabbage stir fried with fish sauce, eggs and crab meat. We've had something similar previously at Nhong Rim Klong in Bangkok so I wanted to see if this was also good. It wasn't. Eggs were more mushy and the crab meat was very minced. Not chunky like those in Nhong Rim Klong which were more enjoyable.

TWG, Swissôtel The Stamford

TWG - Dulcet Rose

Have had tea at TWG a few times. This one's from Hotel Swissôtel The Stamford (Lobby, 2 Stamford Road, tel : +65 6538 1837). By tea, I also refer to tea infused drinks. Which I order more often than their actual pots of tea. Like the Dulcet Rose which is lychee juice and Bain de Roses tea. Yeap - it's a combination of lychee and roses. Pretty good. Even the foam is well flavoured.

TWG - Manhattan sandwich

We have had small bites of food over here before. Tried their club sandwich previously. Today's their Manhattan sandwich. Not Manhattan sized of course. There's a bunch of stuff inside - what I mostly tasted was the pastrami, curried coleslaw and smoked cheddar. Plus the raisins in the coleslaw which was nice. Not getting the veal bacon though. The sandwich was not bad. Just expensive.

TWG - rum baba

I gave up something that could go with their whipped cream and tea jelly for their rum baba this time round. This was so good with the cream. Rum soaked cake with rum jelly. That vanilla bourbon tea ice cream had a good tea flavour as well.

Hui Lau Shan (許留山), Chinatown Point

Hui Lau Shan (許留山), Chinatown Point

I bought something from Hui Lau Shan a couple of times years ago in Hong Kong. Don't remember what it was or what was the outcome but I registered a positive impression. They have a shop at Chinatown Point (#B1-48, 133 New Bridge Road) now. What I liked about them so far were the mangoes they used. I read it's the Carabao variety - sweet, sufficient citrus and had a nice mango-y aroma.

This Triple Delight one had mango pudding underneath. The pudding wasn't great for the mango flavour compared to the actual fruit. Had been expecting better since these guys were the mango dessert people.

Those white pearls from their Pop Pop were described as yoghurt balls. Tasted like spherified Calpis. I liked those. It added tang to the mango puree which also wasn't very mango-y. The mango flavoured ice cream that came with their desserts was not bad though.

Of lemons, shirasu and soba...

Healthy Soba IKI, lemon soba shirasu avocado don

...and avocados. Wanted to have another go at this before it gets rotated out. I hope it somehow makes it onto the permanent menu though. Such refreshing broth.

Koji Sushi Bar, Raffles City

Koji Sushi Bar, Raffles City

Have heard about Koji Sushi Bar since their early days at Far East Square. This was their other shop in town (#03-28A Raffles City, 252 North Bridge Road, tel : +65 6493 0122) which also has been around for a bit.

Koji Sushi Bar, Asahi

The menu's mainly sushi, sashimi, donburi, small plates and there are options for omakase. The seasonal items or specials go onto board.

Koji Sushi Bar, ankimo

Enjoyed their ankimo. Their ponzu jelly wasn't particularly intense so one tasted mostly ankimo. Perhaps that's how they do things here.

Koji Sushi Bar, salad

We ordered their tokubetsu don which came with a salad and miso soup.

Koji Sushi Bar, tokubetsu don

The tokubetsu don from what they mentioned are on limited servings per day. There's a variety of fish, ikura, uni, tororo and an egg. Cuts of the fish were small and so was the portion of uni. Would have liked it better if it were served with vinegared rice than the regular one they used for this.
