Akauo hiraki teishoku & sanma shioyaki from Nakajima Suisan

Nakajima Suisan, akauo hiraki teishoku

Back at Nakajima Suisan (十一十二十三十四十五十六十七十八十九) for their teishoku. It's their akauo hiraki set with extra sanma shioyaki today. Heh heh heh......

Nakajima Suisan, akauo hiraki

I've been favouring this over the much smaller portioned kinmedai. Think it's gonna be that way for a while.

Mei Sheng Kway Teow Mee (美生粿条麵), Teck Ghee Square Food Centre

Mei Sheng Kway Teow Mee (美生粿条麵), Teck Ghee Square Food Centre

Was recommended to give Mei Sheng Kway Teow Mee (#01-37 Teck Ghee Square Food Centre, 409 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10) a go. I'm not sure how to classify these guys because they aren't the typical bak chor mee or fishball noodles. The noodles reminded me of Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodle for some reasons.

Mei Sheng Kway Teow Mee (美生粿条麵), mee pok

Mee pok was overcooked. I've heard their usual standards are otherwise but the noodles we got were softer than what I like, coupled with a light alkaline taste. They were pretty generous with the fried lard though.

Mei Sheng Kway Teow Mee (美生粿条麵), mee kia

In retrospect, their mee kia was more enjoyable. In spite of the amount of chilli they put into it, these noodles didn't pack much heat. It was more of the roasted chilli flavour than actual spiciness.

Mei Sheng Kway Teow Mee (美生粿条麵), soup

Soup's not bad. There's a gentle sweetness to it which reminded me of pork soup and it was very drinkable. Gotta love those fishballs too. For $3.50, it was also great value.

Samurai Burger from McD

McDonald's, Samurai Burger

My first Samurai Burger. It's been around since more than a decade ago but I've never had it because it never looked good to me. For some reasons, the burger's packaged to be unwrapped with the bottom up.

The sauce looked/smelled/tasted like some sort of teriyaki. It's sweet with a bit of creaminess from the mayo on the beef.

Meat was fully cooked through. I've seen some pink before in others so mine was just overdone. It's edible but I don't think it's good and definitely overpriced. This will be my first and last.

A few more desserts from Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop (金玉满堂甜品)

Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop (金玉满堂甜品), peach gum sweet milk mango

Back at Jin Yu Man Tang. Love the peach gum with milk and mango. This was chilled. Many chunks of peach gum in the sweet milk.

Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop (金玉满堂甜品), clear jelly sweet milk mango

Had a variation that has clear jelly instead of peach gum. Flavour's the same but there's a textural difference between the peach gum and the smoother clear jelly. I don't think the jelly has any flavour.

Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop (金玉满堂甜品), sago taro

Hot sago with taro was also delicious. I like how the sweetness in these were moderated. You know, not too sweet. 😬

酸菜 bowls and golden coins at GO Noodle House

 GO Noodle House, 313 Somerset

I've only realized that there is pickled vegetable (酸菜) soup for the noodles at GO Noodle House recently so we came by for some.

GO Noodle House, sliced beef beef balls 特级双牛拼
GO Noodle House, suan cai sliced fish fuzhou fishball noodle

We liked it. The broth wasn't as intense nor oily as most 酸菜鱼. Expect a good hit of sour from the pickled mustard greens but little to no heat. Sliced mackerels were firm and thick and those beef balls were dense and rough. I also liked how their noodles absorbed the soup flavouring itself. Definitely coming back for more.

GO Noodle House, golden coins

Tried something called golden coin. Tasted like bak kwa.

Taro soy milk with mochi from Chinese Tofu Magician (半仙豆夫)

Chinese Tofu Magician, taro soymilk with mochi

Came across this limited edition taro flavour at Chinese Tofu Magician. It's just taro flavouring in their usual drink with those "white jade" balls and soy foam. I thought it tasted more coconut-y than taro-like. Still liking them so far.
