(大勝) Da Sheng Minced Pork Noodle, Ubi

Came across 大勝 (1st Stop Food Junction coffeeshop, Blk 3014 Ubi Road 1) by chance. If you know where this location is, it's not exactly in the way for any reason for most people. Their bak chor mee was pretty good. Noted some resemblance to the famous one which I won't name. Especially so for their mee pok. Vinegar's in their bowl but flavour's not strong. Those fried wanton were actually pretty tasty. Sliced chilli was oddly not very spicy. That being said, I enjoyed this.

Malaysia Boleh, Bugis Junction

Some stuff from Malaysia Boleh at Bugis Junction (#03/03A Bugis Junction, 200 Victoria Street).

Beef ball soup from My Seremban Beef Noodles. Not bad. Soup can be souped up further with some squeezes of lime and salted vegetables. Portions were kinda small though. Beware the salty chinchalok.

Poh piah's pretty good. Loads of sweet sauce and it was stuffed to the max. The wrapping wasn't tight with the stuffings and the rolls weren't even sliced through properly. Each piece was kinda falling apart as we picked them up. Not complaining here. The crispy stuff inside was nice. Will eat again.

Chicken chop aglio olio from Western Boy. The pasta was pretty garlicky. 👍🏼 Chicken chop's pretty flat but nicely browned. Not thick enough to retain much moisture.

Kopi peng is....drinkable. It's actually a little smokey. Not the better one around but this was one I can live with.

Brisket King Beef Noodles (牛腩王牛肉面), Food Republic @ City Square Mall

Chanced upon Brisket King Beef Noodle recently in the Food Republic at City Square Mall (B3-04 City Square Mall, 180 Kitchener Road) and thought they looked pretty good. Did not get any beef. What caught our attention were the lamb ribs on display at the front of the stall amidst the cow meat and offal. This was a lamb ribs soup and the soup's the same beef broth they use for any of their soup stuff. Meat's relatively tender, lamb-y tasting and the broth was delicious. Did I taste fermented bean in it? 

Muslim Food Stall, Bukit Merah View Hawker Centre

What a name. 😅 Couldn't get any more generic and also a proverbial needle in the haystack to Google for. Anyways, we noticed Muslim Food Stall (#01-67 Bukit Merah View Hawker Centre, 115 Bukit Merah View) and their lontong in our previous visits and I told myself I needed to come back and get one. And it was delicious. Lemak, sweet and savoury at the same time with tender vegetables. Begedil's added on and I asked for extra serunding. Will be back for more.

The Vermilion House, Marina Square

Never heard of The Vermilion House (#02-03/04 Marina Square, 6 Raffles Boulevard, tel : +65 8768 5368) until recently but apparently, they've been around for a couple of years. Folks here were friendly and enthusiastically shared that their ingredients are imported from Italy. Pretty sure not all of them are but that's not important.

We ordered their deep fried burrata. Panko crusted in a marinara sauce

Tasted pretty much like how it looked or how burrata normally is - creamy and milky. Plus fried breaded crust.

That's lemon pesto risotto with nicely seared prawns. Flavour was a mixture of pesto and seafood in the rice but I couldn't detect any lemon. I tried.

Then their signature rigatoni with what they described as aged brandy cream. Don't know if it was the brandy or the cream that was aged. Was looking forward to that brandy cream and was disappointed that the flavour barely registered. So much for ageing. This ended up being carbonara-ish. The salty pancetta was masking what little faint flavour there was in the sauce.

The lamb chops looked good and had a nice amount of fat. For some strange reasons, there was little flavour from the lamb. Tasted like beef tenderloin. Even the fat had very little flavour. How the...? 🤔 Pity because we liked everything about it except for the missing lamb flavour.

Food was not bad as a whole. Flavours were just off the mark based on expectations that were trying to reconcile with what was described.

Hjh Maimunah Mini, Food Republic @ City Square Mall

Food Republic has shifted to the basement at City Square Mall (B3-04 City Square Mall, 180 Kitchener Road). I just realized Hajah Maimunah's stall over there has been called Hjh Maimunah Mini and it's been so since the last time I was there in their previous location. 

Food's great as usual. Paru belado, sayur lodeh, begedil, quail eggs and a generous helping of serunding - which came with their ever reliable melange of savoury, sweet, tangy and warm spiciness. Today's begedil seemed to be more creamy than I remember them.

Got an ikan bakar on the side. Dry-ish meat and I think too much bones for me to deal with so I'm not getting it the next time.
