Tag Espresso, Ngee Ann City

Trying some flavoured coffee at Tag Espresso (#02-11 Ngee Ann City, 391 Orchard Road). The one on the right is Nutty Cucumber. There's something that tasted like peanut butter in it. Was trying to discern the cucumber flavour. I figured that if I'm trying that much, it has already failed as a flavour.

The other one was something called Pineapple Black. Sweet citrus of pineapple with black coffee, pretty good. There's even a ring of canned pineapple in it.

Ah Kee Beef Noodle (阿祺牛肉面), Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre

Ah Kee Beef Noodle (#02-72 Commonwealth Crescent Food Centre, 31 Commonwealth Crescent) sorta happened by the way of recommendation. They're just next door to (New) MacPherson Minced Meat Noodles.

This was the dry kuey teow bowl with tripe and tendon. I'm picking up a strong hit of cinnamon and star anise from the deep brown gravy which shouldn't be mistaken for the run of the mill starchy brown gloop with no identity. Chilli sauce has vinegar, garlic and a little bit of coriander - pretty good with the gravy/noodles. Together with the the kiam chye, it was definitely an appealing melange of flavours and texture. Will come back.

White Pepper Burger from Shake Shack

We were quite willing to give the recent Shake Shack X KEK collab a miss because it didn't sound appealing. As things went, we still ended up getting the White Pepper Burger because we happened to be here. I'm glad we did because this one unlike most of their limited edition burgers, was actually nice. This was at Suntec (#01-357 Suntec City, West Wing, 3 Temasek Boulevard).

Sarawak white pepper sauce, sautéed onions, fresh scallions and Monterey Jack. The white pepper sauce was present but not in your face. I liked that through the discernible white pepper, the meat and onions weren't muted and the aroma from the scallions/spring onions turned out to be good pairing. Now I wished I had tried this earlier.

Revisiting Relish

The blue cheese and Williams pear burger at Relish appears to have been removed from their regular menu. It's available currently as a special. Came here for that before it disappears.

Mulberry lemonade I think. Not sweet so it's actually refreshing from the sour.

Photos for posterity. Peanut butter and blue cheese in it. Meat would benefit from a bit more salt methinks.

There's a fish collagen broth udon on the menu. Not bad tasting. Fish portion wasn't much but broth's nice and savoury.

Ondeh ondeh cake was pretty good. We felt that it had a good balance between the pandan, gula melaka and coconut without being overly sweet.

Christmas turkey dinner from The Ship

A chance dinner at The Ship. I haven't had anything other than their fish soup noodles for some time and decided to try what the menu described as 'roast turkey & honey baked ham, served with chestnut stuffing, topped with giblet gravy & cranberry sauce'. Sounded good. 😏

Roast turkey was dry and stringy. Absolutely no crisp and little flavour on the soggy skin. Honey baked ham was surprisingly not salty and tasted like it was boiled. What chestnut stuffing? The giblet gravy tasted like generic brown sauce. Should have known better than to expect more out of that one. Those purple blobs on top of the food were the cranberry sauce. More jelly than sauce. 😂

Breakfast from You Ji (有記)

A recent breakfast at You Ji. I'm liking the sweet sauce from the chee cheong fun. Mock goose's crispy and the luncheon meat wasn't as bad as I imagined. That said, the latter wasn't great by any stretch of imagination. Just not as bad as some others. Still a happy breakfast this one.
