Charco's The Flaming Chicken, Ang Mo Kio Ave 5

Charco's The Flaming Chicken

There's a new western food place down at Ang Mo Kio (Blk 608, Ang Mo Kio Ave 5) run by an Australian guy where Botak Jones used to be. A place for roasted chicken, chicken burgers, ribs, kebabs and salad. The food reminded me of Nando's and Kenny Rogers, Coffeeshop styled of course. The stall looked to be still at the teething stages of getting into their groove with spotty service, wrong orders and a noticeable wait time for the food. Ordered a quarter Hawaiian chicken ($6.50) on the grounds that this was basically a roasted chicken joint. For a dollar top up, one can get a Portugese chicken instead of the regular Charco's chicken. The difference? Portuguese chicken was spicy while Charco's wasn't. So does that make it a Hawaiian Portuguese chicken?!

The chicken, to it's Hawaiian namesake came with two slices of pineapple fritters. Those were not bad when you ate them fresh. The meat from the bird was a little dry and didn't taste like it was different from any other roasted chicken. The spices weren't really special. What was notable though were their tangy, smoky and spicy bbq sauce on the side. This sauce was so smoky, it tasted almost carcinogenic. Seriously, but it was pretty delicious.

I have tried Charco's I think its the best food I have eaten in a very long time. The variety and the presentation is great!!! This is something that Singapore has needed in a very long time. I'm sick of the boring food we have now, Charco's is a lifesaver!! God Bless Charco's!!!

Yummy, I love their Seafood and Caser Salads. Best of all, just along the same stretch, there is a muffin shop, Pateli's Crave, sells the best muffins I even tasted too. Saw their newspaper cuttings outside their shop, stated they are one of the pioneer selling cupcakes in Singapore. Wow, Blk 608 Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 is a food paradise...

I love their seafood and caser salads, though I find it abit expensive for a small portion at $4.90.

There is also the best muffin shop along the same stretch at Blk 608, call..hmm.. Pateli's Crave. They are the pioneer of Cupcakes in Singapore too. Very nice muffins..yummy. Must try! But I think they closed on Sun and Public Holidays and half day on Sat.

Hi private and confidential,
I don't think they are halal. They have pork ribs.

I have tried Charco's quater chicken with 3 choices of salads. their cesar salad, prawn salad are superb. And the salad serving is generous. Anyway, it's Halal, their Halal certificate can be seen next to the cashier counter.

I had been a Fan of Charco ever since they pop up behind my house and I saw that they're Halal. Love their regular Charco Chicken but the only time I tried their Portugese, I found it too oily for my taste.
If not for the pricetag, I would had eaten there every week but have to lately limit it to almost monthly. :P
