This was our first time dinnering at
Nanbantei (
#05-132 Far East Plaza, 14 Scotts Road, tel : +65 6733 5666). The previous times which we had been here were for
lunch. Those were a pretty long while back. This dinner almost didn't happen since we were wandering around Far East Plaza and we did not have reservations. Surprisingly, we managed to get a table from walk in. On a Friday night, no less. Little blessings in life not to take for granted.

The food was pretty good. While it was certainly not the best of kushiyaki we've had, it was respectable and there wasn't much that we didn't like either. Maybe except for the really cramped quarters and I would have preferred less of that ginger flavour from their tare. The tori hatsu did look a little shrivelled. Observations included us getting the carbs before the grills came over and the avocado tempura had a batter like goreng pisang. Hmmm. That was quite enjoyable by the way. I could compare and there is only one other place I would compare to. And no, Nanbantei for all its accolades isn't there.
In case you were wondering, the nasu and zucchini were in a takeaway box because we had paid up and were about to leave before we realized that those orders hadn't yet been served. We actually forgot that we had ordered them so we had those to go.
