The Taiwanese chain Moon Moon Food (#05-30 Ngee Ann City, 391A Orchard Road) opened a couple of months back. From what I gathered from local media, they're known for their soups and that they're popular. Which is odd because Google doesn't yield me much results beyond sites who're paid to write about them. Anyways......
Something described as shredded stem lettuce yuzu vinaigrette. I enjoyed the crunch and the savouriness from the sauce with a hit of umami from those tobiko. But I tasted no yuzu.
Their spicy sesame noodles was nice. Nutty and I tasted Sichuan peppercorn.
Tried a couple of their braises - these were pig's skin, heart and intestines. Not bad. Braise wasn't intensely flavoured as I imagined and the thin slicing robbed a lot of mouthfeel and texture from the offal. I understand that the heart has got to go thin because of the muscular structure but the others did not.
Fish maw and napa cabbage in golden broth. Fish maw's not toasty and was just spongy. Cabbage was sweet and crunchy. Don't know what's the "golden broth" but it tasted like it had a base of chick stock. Not bad.
Fish and clam soup was good. Fish was fresh tasting and the soup was sweet with loads of cabbage and clams. There's a variety of other soups which I don't mind coming back for.
There's a roselle drink with aiyu which is almost as good as the one at Din Tai Fung.
Green bean with milk. Not bad also.
