Keisuke Plus, Funan

Keisuke Plus, Funan

Keisuke Plus, or is that K+ (#01-15 Funan, 107 North Bridge Road, tel : +65 6320 3456) is the new offshoot from the Keisuke Group, themed as a ramen/gyoza/sake bar and restaurant kind of eatery. The menu sports a selection of ramen that isn't available in any of their other shops.

Keisuke Plus, Funan

Place looks a little more fancy than their usual ramen joints. The tradition of free hard boiled eggs and bean sprouts is continued here.

Keisuke Plus, wagyu gyoza

One of the things Keisuke Plus appears to be doing is showcasing what they can do with wagyu. Which isn't a new thing or uncommon in this era. We had an order of their wagyu gyoza.

Keisuke Plus, wagyu gyoza

It's delicious. Beefy gyoza kind of delicious, seeping with flavourful oils. This blows the more expensive ones from Mashi No Mashi out of the water just by the virtue that we could tell that it was beef.

Keisuke Plus, wagyu mazesoba

This - their wagyu mazesoba.

Keisuke Plus, wagyu mazesoba

Nice. There's a mixture of flavours from the ingredients which somehow did not overwhelm the intrinsic flavour from the meat. I'm reminded of a beefy bak chor mee.

Keisuke Plus, wagyu mazesoba

Mazesoba was also good with the hot sauce they bring to you for it. This one was not that spicy.

Keisuke Plus, hiroshima oyster broth ramen

The bowl that hit like a punch from Saitama was their Hokkaido oyster broth ramen.👊🏻 Umami, creamy and intensely flavoured with the shellfish. Good on its own and also good with the squeeze of lemon. I recommend some before the lemon and some after. From the point of flavour intensity as an oyster based broth, this was ahead of the oyster paitan bowl from Konjiki Hototogisu

Keisuke Plus, lemosco

Even with splashes of the Lemosco, it was good eating. If anyone was wondering,  that's a lemony/yuzu-y sauce with a bit of heat - like a lemon Tabasco.

Keisuke Plus, atsugiri ham cutlet

We also came across one of the better if not best hamu katsu in town. Thick with a proper panko crust. This was so much better than the one at Hakata Yakitori Batten Yokatoh.

Revisiting Joo Chiat Beef Noodle (如切牛腩面),

Joo Chiat Beef Noodle (如切牛腩面), tripe kuey teow

Came back for more stuff Joo Chiat Beef Noodle at Zion Riverside Food Centre. No we didn't get the cow penis. This was a bowl of dry kuey teow with tripe. Tripe was pretty tender and a little chewy. Random thought : why is isn't this place called Zion Canalside Food Centre instead?

Joo Chiat Beef Noodle (如切牛腩面), tendon kuey teow soup

We did get tendon this time as well in soup kuey teow. That broth tasted like bak kut teh/zhu zha tang (猪什汤) rather than beef noodle soup. Which is odd because I could have sworn that the broth was from the pot of boiling beef parts.

Joo Chiat Beef Noodle (如切牛腩面), 红油抄手

That's their rendition of 红油抄手. Not exactly has how I imagined but it was a pretty decent eat if not identical to those chilli oil dumplings that are found in Chinese restaurants. There's toasted chilli and some vinegar. Couldn't identify the meat stuffings so I'm assuming it's pork.

Economy Snacks (经济小吃), Telok Blangah Crescent Food Centre

Noticed this stall (#01-124 Telok Blangah Crescent Market & Food Centre, 11 Telok Blangah Crescent) selling economy bee hoon the last time we were at this food centre. Made a mental note to come back and here we were.

Economy Snacks (经济小吃), bee hoon

Pretty decent bee hoon. Love those fried eggs without crispy borders. Luncheon meat was unusually peppery. Chilli's slightly sweet and a little spicy. Definitely don't mind coming back again.

Burnt Cone Gelato, Sunset Way

Burnt Cone Gelato, Sunset Way

Some stuff from a happenstance dive into Burnt Cone Gelato (#01-02, 105 Clementi Street 12, tel : +65 9711 1097) while seeking refuge from the rain.

Burnt Cone Gelato, Sunset Way

Got ourselves dirty matcha and ube latte. The former wasn't memorable on the account of the ratio of ingredients. A bit too much milk for the amount of matcha and coffee which made it feel....somewhat frivolous. The ube latte? Has that expected yam/sweet potato flavour and was milky.

Burnt Cone Gelato, gelato waffles

There's waffles on menu - freshly made, eggy and delicious with the bit of crisp on the edges. Here's one topped with a scoop of ube and a chrysanthemum with goji berry gelato. As I can recall with my limited experience, I haven't had any bad chrysanthemum gelato. This one was nice too.

Yan Ji Gourmet by Good Earth (炎记品味海鲜汤)

Yan Ji Gourmet by Good Earth (炎记品味海鲜汤)

This revisit to Yan Ji was prompted, kinda, by the recent eat at Jia Li Seafood Soup. We were pretty sure that Yan Ji has a better tasting broth and wanted to...well, confirm if we remembered it correctly. Too many gaslights around lately. I never realized that they were branded Yan Ji Gourmet by Good Earth until recently. Anyways......

Yan Ji Gourmet by Good Earth (炎记品味海鲜汤)

These couple of bowls featured toman/snakehead and milkfish belly. The snakehead (bottom) one had a sweeter broth but the milkfish belly (top) had more flavour. In any case, both blew the broth from Jia Li out of their water. 😂 More umami, sweet and roundedness in the finish. Yan Ji was just so much more satisfying.

Yan Ji Gourmet by Good Earth (炎记品味海鲜汤)

Their pumpkin rice was dry and beady, flavoured largely by dried shrimp. Add chilli sauce for an awesome eat but otherwise, I wouldn't bother getting this again.

Authentic Teochew Tradition Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (潮州传统香菇肉脞面), Havelock Road Food Centre

Authentic Teochew Tradition Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (潮州传统香菇肉脞面), Havelock Road Food Centre

Authentic Teochew Tradition Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (#01-21 Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre, 22A/B Havelock Road) opened up recently. They are the incarnation of the defunct Sixties Chaozhou Traditional Minced Pork Noodles that used to be at Seng Poh Road. The menu appears to be the same as before.

The queue was definitely the same as before - meaning excruciatingly slow. 😑 For a little more than a handful of persons ahead, it was a 45 minute wait.

Authentic Teochew Tradition Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (潮州传统香菇肉脞面)

This was the $7 bowl of mee pok.

Authentic Teochew Tradition Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (潮州传统香菇肉脞面)

This was the $5 bowl. The more expensive bowl had a couple of prawns and ti poh.

Looking back, their mushroom minced meat noodle tasted very much the same. As far as I can tell. From the middling texture of the noodles to the strength of vinegar and even the sweet peppery soup on the side. My opinion of it also hasn't changed as well. Not bad and will definitely consider them if there wasn't a queue.
