Tsukemen from Keisuke Kani King

Keisuke Kani King

It's been a while since the last time. I didn't recall a tsukemen on the menu then but there's one now which is what I came for.

Keisuke Kani King, tsukemen

The dipping broth was disappointing. Didn't even pack the punch that their regular thick soup does. Tsukemen broth tends to be thicker than their regular counterparts but this seemed not to be the case.

The regular thick broth was good enough to finish. Good as I remembered it.

Keisuke Kani King, gyoza

Gyozas were okay. These has skins that reminded me of Chinese fried guo tie. Don't mind eating them again.

Black and white and chilli from Heng Heng Cooked Food

Heng Heng Cooked Food - black white radish cake

When you have difficulty deciding and you're just getting one packet. Chilli was mild, light prickle of heat. From Heng Heng.

Some food from the Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza at Great World

Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza, kaki fry curry rice

That's the area (#B2-101/107 Great World, 11 Kim Seng Promenade) selling confectionary with an attached food court outside Meidi-Ya at Great World. Not sure if the stall is call Bentoss but they had Japanese curry.

Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza, kaki fry curry rice

This was not bad. Oysters were creamy and oyster-ly flavoured in a nice way. The crust tasted different from the old curry/katsu shop at Liang Court though so maybe they're not the same guys. Curry appeared to have texture like keema with bits of vegetables and meat. It's sweet, but not annoyingly so.

Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza - tonkotsu ramen

Got a bowl of tonkotsu from Sapporo Nishiyama at the end of the food court. The charshu was not bad, ajitama was decent and even the curly noodles were fine. What didn't work for me was their tonkotsu broth which had a sweetness that I didn't like. What's worse, they added ginger paste. I'm not discounting them yet as I've spied some gokai noko bowls that they have. May try them the next time.

Lao Ren Jia Roasted (老人家燒臘), Chinatown Food Centre

Lao Ren Jia Roasted (老人家燒臘), soya sauce chicken char siew rice

We happened by this stall (#02-003 Chinatown Food Centre, 335 Smith Street) the last time we were around. It was the name that caught our attention. So we ordered their soya sauce chicken thigh (鸡尾) and char siew on rice.

Not bad. The thigh meat was slurp off the bone tender. Flavour from the soya sauce on the skin was savoury without the sweetness that Hawker Chan has. Not a bad thing, just different. I added char siew because it was intrigued by their redness and the lack of char. And that it looked like it was all belly meat. It's not bad too. Just doesn't have the char that added a level of smokiness.

Rice was lightly flavoured but sufficient to the point I could eat them on their own. Chilli was slightly ginger-y but also had quite a bit of lime.

tender meat and non carcinogenic, maybe that's why it's for 老人家

The ABC of pratas

ABC Food Corner, coin prata

While coin prata is nothing new, I don't remember if I've ever had them. Yeap, that would be those little round fried pastries up there. This was an order with mutton masala and fish curry (top left) from ABC Food Corner. I thought they did the coin prata well. Crisp on the outside with a chewy tenderness beneath.

ABC Food Corner, milo prata

I wondered about the curries with their Milo prata previously. Today, we've graduated into having them with dalcha and even the tamarind based fish curry. Wasn't weird at all. One just has to free the mind.

Guang Li Wanton Noodle, Havelock Road Food Centre

Guang Li Wanton Noodle, wanton mee

Have eaten at this stall (#01-01 Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre, 22A/B Havelock Road) a couple of times.  They're only open for a few hours in the late evening/night. Even when there isn't a visible queue, the wait time can be considerable because they are probably preparing for orders which have already been taken.

Guang Li Wanton Noodle, wanton soup

Char siew and wantons were boring. I didn't think much of them.  The flavour was old school and frills free. What made me eat here and revisit were the noodles and their chilli sauce. Love the wiry texture and bite of them noodles.
