Dinosaur Munchi from Munchi Pancakes

Munchi Pancakes, dinosaur munchi

Limited edition flavour from Munchi Pancakes and the name obviously is a reference to Milo Dinosaur. I kinda liked it it. These munchis were just fat disc version of min chiang kueh with a tender and springy bite to them. This particular one was coated with Milo powder and stuffed with Milo flavoured cream cheese.

Back at SBCD Korean Tofu House

SBCD Korean Tofu House, Guoco Tower

Happenstance dinner at SBCD Korean Tofu House. It's been a lot longer than I realised since the last time. This was a combo with spicy chicken and their original beef soontofu/sundubu.

SBCD Korean Tofu House, spicy chicken

Their spicy chicken's kinda nice. Charred, smoky and sweet. The heat wasn't as intimidating as what most people might imagine. We almost thought this was the teriyaki chicken served by mistake.

SBCD Korean Tofu House, original beef soontofu

That original beef soontofu has sliced and minced meat. Noticed substantially more tofu than I recall ever getting from the last times. This pot was great with rice.

Fan Ji Speciality Noodle (帆記特制麵), West Coast Drive

Fan Ji Speciality Noodle (帆記特制麵), West Coast Drive

Long story short, owner/noodle slinger Oliver graduated from being a customer -> fan -> godson > disciple and eventually successor to Ah Hoe Mee Pok. At least that's the story that's been told. The outcome is Fan Ji Speciality Noodle (501 West Coast Drive) which is located in the same spot that used to be Ah Hoe Mee Pok.

Fan Ji Speciality Noodle (帆記特制麵), West Coast Drive

Menu looked the same. This was their No. 5 bowl which was their rendition of bak chor mee with fish maw. 加面 is free like how it was when it was Ah Hoe Mee Pok, but that above was it. Looked much like a regular portion from any other stalls. So without 加面, the bowl of noodles will be small.

Great texture on the mee pok. Love how much bite it has. Liked the saucing though. Spicy, savoury with a mild sweet undertone and a bit lardy.

Fan Ji Speciality Noodle (帆記特制麵), soup

Soup comes with minced pork, sliced pork, fish maw, fish dumpling and their Teochew dumpling. Soups gently sweet from possibly the pork and cabbage but still savoury and relatively clean tasting. I like it.

Fan Ji Speciality Noodle (帆記特制麵), teochew dumpling soup

Said Teochew dumpling can be ordered separately. They're semi circular that slightly resembles sui gao/水饺 with dried soe/ti poh infused minced pork stuffings wrapped in wanton skin. Nice.

Xin Man Tang HK Roasted (新满堂港式烧腊), Circuit Road

Xin Man Tang HK Roasted (新满堂港式烧腊), chicken rice char siew

Xin Man Tang's located at the same coffeeshop as NKS Indian Muslim Food (18B Circuit Road) from a few months back. They're basically a roast meats, chicken rice and wanton noodle stall. Pretty decent tasting greasy plate of chicken rice (I got 鸡尾) here with a lime-y garlicky chilli. The char siew was pretty darn good with the fatty bits and sweet char on the surface.

Re-visiting Song Fa Bak Kut Teh (松發肉骨茶) @ Chinatown Point

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, Chinatown Point

It has been a while (a few years actually) since our last time at Song Fa Bak Kut Teh. The reason I give myself for not doing so is the queue. Often long and discouraging. But we made it today and did not have to wait very long.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, king's garden ale

One of the things I've been looking forward to is gulps of their King's Garden Ale.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, picked mustard greens
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, fish
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, tau kee
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, pork knuckles

We ordered some old people food like salted vegetable/pickled mustard greens, sliced fish in peppery broth and braised tau kee. That and pork knuckles which the menu has option for less lean meat - so this was mostly fat and skin. Nice.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, rice

Those pickled vegetables, a splash of the peppery broth and the braising sauce from the pork knuckle created rice thievery. 👍🏼

Little Rogue Coffee, Yong Siak Street

Little Rogue Coffee, Yong Siak Street

Lunch at Little Rogue Coffee (27 Yong Siak Street). These guys have been around and previously operated at Tanjong Katong before moving here. They appear to be another mostly all day breakfast-y food kind of place. This spot which they're occupying used to be Soi 47.

Little Rogue Coffee, breakfast spamwich

Not bad breakfast spamwich. Eggs, spam, hash brown, cheese and mustard. It has that combination of fat, salt and protein that made it pretty easy to like and there're no surprises here.

Little Rogue Coffee, scrambled eggs ikura

From what I gathered, they're known for their scrambled eggs with ikura. Also pretty good. The eggs were creamy and purposefully flavoured with the brininess from the ikura and some richness from the truffle cream. Nice with the buttered sourdough.

Little Rogue Coffee, espresso tonic

There's espresso tonic here.

Little Rogue Coffee, maple thyme hotcake

Maple thyme hotcake was delicious. Love the crusty texture on the edges. Flavour of the herb came through the hotcake. Think that was a miso caramel sauce drizzled over. Ice cream was Earl Grey.
