Coffee Break @ Hong Lim Food Centre

Coffee Break, masala coffee

So Coffee Break has another shop at Hong Lim (#02-41 Hong Lim Food Centre, 531A Upper Cross Street). This one doesn't do toast but I think they have a similar gamut of beverages as the stall at Amoy Food Centre. I got myself a masala coffee to see if they tasted the same. I think the Amoy stall has a more feisty masala infusion than this one. Not that I didn't enjoy this.

Dry mee siam from Old Chang Kee

Dry mee siam from Old Chang Kee

I've noticed the dry mee siam from Old Chang Kee for some time and curiosity got the better of me. I didn't like it. The bee hoon were stringy without much moisture and it didn't taste very mee siam-y. That being said, I'm glad that I asked for an extra lime to go along which helped. Those tau pok they threw in were like dry bland husks of fried matter. Wouldn't get this again. Thankfully I got those giant fishballs.

Croissants and a brioche from Tiong Bahru Bakery

Tiong Bahru Bakery, croissant brioche

I've been hearing for a long time now about how good the croissants were at Tiong Bahru Bakery (#01-70, 56 Eng Hoon Street, tel : +65 6220 3430). I got some this morning to try seeing that the queue wasn't too deterring in the early part of the morning.

They weren't bad tasting per se. Much better than their almond matcha one. Didn't get the feels like I did with the defunct Mirabelle but it was nicely done with a good flaky crisp. It just wasn't as buttery as I had been imagining and that's a sin for croissants. Ditto for the brioche.

The takeaway from Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup......

Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup

......is that it survives takeaway. But of course it does since this was just pickled mustard and pig offal in clear soup. Nothing suffers textural change in here. I've been sitting and wondering what else survives tar pow well. Soup does and their flavour has endured. Still delicious through all these years.

McGriddling

McGriddles Stack

I woke up and for some reasons felt like getting one of these - which was a good idea (imho) since I never get beyond one or two of them before they disappear on the limited runs on McD's menu. Not exactly the healthiest thing but that being said, was health usually a criteria we dwell on while deciding on something that's....yummy? It was as tasty as it has always been. More satisfying than my sandwich yesterday.

ONDA by Park Bench Deli, Lorong Telok

ONDA by Park Bench Deli, cuban sandwich

According to the website from these folks, ONDA by Park Bench Deli (21 Lorong Telok) is the first in a series of smaller shops from PBD celebrating the incredible food cultures behind the star sandwiches from the Deli. This one is for the Cubano. I'm also assuming 'the Deli' refers to Park Bench Deli.

Anyways, the thing to get there is obviously their Cubano. The only other food they have on menu are finger food and a hot dog. They have in their sandwich ham, lechon, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard in a pressed roll - tasted all of it except maybe the mustard. Tastier than the one at Mmmunch. Sandwich looked neat and it was also kinda small. It's not bad but the experience didn't leave a deep impression. Don't think I would go out of the way for this.
