Etna and thoughts

Etna, Tanjong Pagar

This was a dinner over the National Day weekend. We haven't been paying much attention to Etna in recent years because their menu doesn't change and variety isn't their game. They used to have staggering options years ago and were more rustic, but I suppose they get by with their current clientele with what they are doing these days with the smaller portions and prettier presentation. Occasionally, something nice comes up on their weekend specials. With a special price tag.

We still come back once in the while because there's still a quality to some of the items in their menu worth returning for.

Etna, antipasti

Their antipasti platter is filled with their pickled vegetables. Pretty acidic. Great when you've been having rich food and need the sour to cut through the richness. A little too much sour for me as a starter. Will avoid in the future.

Etna, pizza

The pizza special this week was with stracciatella, Mortadella and pistachio from Bronte. Very nice. The flavour from the main toppings came through nicely balanced. Love the pistachios.

Etna, squid ink gnocchetti

That's squid ink gnocchetti in a prawn bisque. Nicely done too. Getting the flavours from both the ink and bisque. The former possibly because of the sauce rather than the pasta. Kinda disappointed that their "lightly seared prawns" came in such pitiful portions for what they charged though.

Etna, tagliatelle truffle

Very nicely done tagliatelle with truffle cream sauce. Loved the bite in the egg noodles. There's mushrooms and scallops in there if anyone was wondering but one couldn't necessary differentiate between the two since they were both thinly sliced and in small pieces..
