Revisiting Anjappar @ Race Course Road

Anjappar, mutton kothu parotta

Back at Anjappar. Tried their mutton kothu parotta. Quite nice but pretty heavy with all the grease.

Anjappar, fish 65

That's fish 65. First time getting one of these I believe. I don't know what fish was it. Texture was almost identical to Spanish mackerel but it did not taste like them.

Anjappar, mixed fried noodles

Mixed fried noodles. Mixed because there's chicken, mutton and prawns in it. Not a bad one actually. The only thing I didn't like were the capsicum/bell peppers. Otherwise it's a straightforward, possibly soy based, savoury stir fried noodles with bits of egg and vegetables. We've just started venturing into these Chinese styled Indian fried noodles recently. Last ones were at Semolina and Tangra Chinese. So far it's been promising.

Anjappar, special ghee podi idly

Couldn't resist finding out what their special ghee podi idly was about. While it's kinda self explanatory from the name, it wasn't exactly like I imagined it. I was thinking just idly soaked with ghee and covered with podi. While those were there, I didn't expect them to be cut up and tossed (stir fried?) with bits of sweet onion. Nice.

Anjappar, ginger tea

This ginger tea didn't have much of ginger flavour. Seems like this outlet isn't good with their teas.

亞忠燒臘 (Ah Zhong Roasted Delights), Maxwell Food Centre

亞忠燒臘 (Ah Zhong Roasted Delights), Maxwell Food Centre

We've noticed 亞忠燒臘 (#01-93 Maxwell Food Centre, 1 Kadayanallur Street) over the past times we were eating at Maxwell. The one thing that had always been consistent was the queue in front of the stall. We decided to try a triple roast today with char siew, roast pork and duck. I requested 半肥瘦 for the char siew. When the proprietor brought my plate of roasts out, he remarked that 这个叉燒很够力. 😂

Which was true. I'd put this char siew in the same league as the one from Mei Mei Roast. Bitter sweet with a gummy surface and melty fats. Roast pork was tender with a crunchy crackling and the duck breast was pretty tender. I can understand this queue.

亞忠燒臘 (Ah Zhong Roasted Delights), chicken claw noodles

Pretty decent chicken claw noodles. One could taste their house recipe of spices in the braising sauce in those claws. Pretty easy to slurp off the bone and if you hadn't noticed, those claws were huge. This was just the $4 portion.

Mentaiko egg sandwich from Toast Box

Toast Box, mentaiko egg sandwich

I never realized that Toast Box has mentaiko egg sandos until now. At least they did for the branch at Ngee Ann City. Not a whole lot of that mentaiko mayo in it but it was adequate for flavouring and this did not taste bad at all.

Fishball noodles from (New) MacPherson Minced Meat Noodles (麦波申肉脞麵)

(New) MacPherson Minced Meat Noodles (麦波申肉脞麵), fishball mee pok

I've tried almost all the noodles from (New) MacPherson Minced Meat Noodles. Left with their 小碗面 to go. 😂 Not that it was my intent to try everything as a goal. Fishballs and fish cakes were run of the mill so I won't be getting these again.

裕廊东18年传统味鱼圆面, Maxwell Food Centre

裕廊东18年传统味鱼圆面, minced pork noodle pig stomach

Noticed this relatively new stall (#01-59 Maxwell Food Centre, 1 Kadayanallur Street) at Maxwell and was drawn to them because the menu pictures of their minced pork noodles had pig's stomach in it. Since they also had pig's stomach mee sua on the menu as well, I figured that the tripe in bak chor mee picture was probably not just "for illustration purposes only". Here's their bowl with additional $2 portion of the tripe.

Noodles were pretty generic tasting and not in a doneness which I prefer but the bowl was generally good eating with good quality ingredients. Those boiled pig's stomach were relatively tender too. There's also laksa on their menu which didn't look bad as well.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), Ngee Ann City / Takashimaya

Moon Moon Food (雙月), Ngee Ann City/Takashimaya

The Taiwanese chain Moon Moon Food (#05-30 Ngee Ann City, 391A Orchard Road) opened a couple of months back. From what I gathered from local media, they're known for their soups and that they're popular. Which is odd because Google doesn't yield me much results beyond sites who're paid to write about them. Anyways......

Moon Moon Food (雙月), shredded stem lettuce yuzu vinaigrette

Something described as shredded stem lettuce yuzu vinaigrette. I enjoyed the crunch and the savouriness from the sauce with a hit of umami from those tobiko. But I tasted no yuzu.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), spicy sesame noodles

Their spicy sesame noodles was nice. Nutty and I tasted Sichuan peppercorn.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), braised pork

Tried a couple of their braises - these were pig's skin, heart and intestines. Not bad. Braise wasn't intensely flavoured as I imagined and the thin slicing robbed a lot of mouthfeel and texture from the offal. I understand that the heart has got to go thin because of the muscular structure but the others did not.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), fish maw napa cabbage golden broth

Fish maw and napa cabbage in golden broth. Fish maw's not toasty and was just spongy. Cabbage was sweet and crunchy. Don't know what's the "golden broth" but it tasted like it had a base of chick stock. Not bad.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), sea bass & clam soup

Fish and clam soup was good. Fish was fresh tasting and the soup was sweet with loads of cabbage and clams. There's a variety of other soups which I don't mind coming back for.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), roselle aiyu jelly

There's a roselle drink with aiyu which is almost as good as the one at Din Tai Fung.

Moon Moon Food (雙月), iced emerald green bean fresh milk

Green bean with milk. Not bad also.
