Relish by Wild Rocket, Cluny Court

Relish by Wild Rocket, Cluny Court

The last time we were here at Relish (#02-01 Cluny Court, 501 Bukit Timah Road, tel : +65 6763 1547) was many years back. For some reasons, the place has fallen under our radar in the past one an a half decade.

Relish by Wild Rocket, lemongrass & ginger

Iced lemongrass & ginger was outstanding. Why? We loved the heat from the ginger in the drink which reminded us of the one from the aged ginger powder from Spa Foods - something we noticed they were also selling. But great lemongrass and ginger on ice.

Guess what else they have here.

Relish by Wild Rocket, har cheong frog legs

We ordered prawn paste frog legs (虾酱田鸡). A little greasy but they did a good job out of infusing the crispy prawn paste batter with prawn paste; not forgetting also the tender slurp off the bone meat on the frog legs.

Relish by Wild Rocket, roketto oyster omelette spaghettini

That's the Roketto oyster omelette spaghettini - great umami from dried shrimp in the pasta thats infused with heat. Love those egg strips and fried oysters in there. Could definitely eat this again.

Relish by Wild Rocket, blue cheese william pear burger

I've been wondering about their blue cheese & William pear burger since back in the day. Finally tried it. I liked it. The 'blue cheese-infused beef patty' always had me doubting the blue cheese part. In actuality, it's not so much a cheese infused patty than a cheese stuffed one like a Juicy Lucy. Cheese was wedged in the patty.

Enjoyed this. Could taste that walnut-peanut butter and poached pear so the balance of flavours in the ingredients were done well.

A double shot hazelnut latte to end.

Ah Chye Coffee (阿財咖啡), Toa Payoh Vista Food Centre

Ah Chye Coffee (阿財咖啡), steamed bread coffee

Pretty decent local coffee can be found here (#01-01 Toa Payoh Vista Market, 74 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh). Those soft steamed bread were also kinda nice with thick slices of butter wedged in between. Gotta remember that the default sizes for their hot beverages are large and you'll need to ask for the small ones if you want those.

The Goodburger, Coronation Plaza

The Goodburger, menu

SINGAPORE’S HOTTEST FOOD TRUCK SERVING AMAZING PLANT-BASED BURGERS THAT TASTES LIKE THE REAL THING, ONLY A LOT KINDER AND BETTER FOR THE PLANET. That's what the website says.

I don’t know about the hottest food truck since there isn’t any thermostat with LED on display I could look at and it was a pretty cooling day when we were there. Burger was so so. Am also willing to bet every dollar I have that they know next to nothing about being kinder and better for the planet in the context of the supply chain for their ingredients but that won't be a topic in this space.

The Goodburger, the classic extra patty

We tried their Classic. Even though I asked for less sauce, the mayo and ketchup were oozing out of the burger and dripping right from the first bite. Pretty sure the person cooking didn't get the memo because the guy taking order repeated my request. Or maybe that amount was already less sauce? 😱

The burger was not as good as what remember from the defunct Omakase Burger or Oriole Coffee for sure. The sauces pretty much made sure that little of the Impossible patty could be tasted. Would I eat it again? Not unless I'm in the vicinity. And minus all sauce. I didn't think it was worth travelling out of the way for it.

Rahmath Cheese Prata, Toa Payoh Vista Market

Rahmath Cheese Prata, Toa Payoh Vista Food Centre

Noticed Rahmath Cheese Prata (#01-08 Toa Payoh Vista Market, 74 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh) the last time we were in the vicinity.

Rahmath Cheese Prata, cheese & egg prata

Ordered a cheese and and egg prata. Not bad. I liked that it wasn't overly greasy and there was a mix of crisp and bite on the pastry. The distribution of the cheese was...well, not well done. That one wasn't particularly tasty compared to other cheese pratas out there. But for prata as a whole, these guys aren't bad at all. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any other curries than the dalcha they provide.

Some Oktoberfest food from Huber's this year

Huber's Bistro, Dempsey

Yeap, food from Huber's Oktoberfest menu. We ordered pretty much everything from there. (Into the Huber-verse! (十一十二十三十四)

Huber's Bistro, bayrisch hell

Some lager called Bayrisch Hell, a brew for their Oktoberfest menu. It's okay. I prefer their regular Grevensteiner or Schneider Weisse to this.

Huber's Bistro, lentil stew liver spatzle sausage

That's a lentil stew with weinerli and liver spatzle. I was mostly curious about the liver spatzle in the stew which looked a little grey. Couldn't taste much of the liver in them though. Stew as a whole was pretty delicious.

Huber's Bistro, schweinshaxe

Our half portion of schweinshaxe - or pork knuckles at a difficult to beat price of $12.50. Meat's not as tender as I was hoping for. In fact, I thought Brotzeit's gives these a run for their money. But where this excelled was the delicious crunchy crackling and their onion-y, thick and dark beer sauce which I thought was exceptional.

It would be remiss of me to not mention that cabbage slaw thing on the side which I thought was good and the nutmeg spiced bread dumpling on the side which I also liked.

Huber's Bistro, ribs

Here's a half rack of ribs in sweet barbeque sauce. No, this wasn't the tangy vinegar infused smoky variety that one commonly finds. This was just sweet and a little smoky. Meat was easily taken off the bone but it also wasn't as tender as I was hoping for.

Huber's Bistro, plum cake zwetschgendatschi

Plum cake. So says the menu. It was more like a pie/tart. Fillings were tart but I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it. Pastry was pretty dense though.

Huber's Bistro, coffee

What's this?!

Cheonggukjang jjigae, beef bibimbap & godeungeo gui at Ko Ryo Jeong (고려정)

Ko Ryo Jeong, International Plaza

Been a while since we were last here at Ko Ryo Jeong. Wanted to try the octopus set they put up on a poster but it wasn't available. Sundae was also not available - which was strange because they said it was not legal and we've seen it around. Anyways, we fell back onto some dependables...

Ko Ryo Jeong, cheonggukjang jjigae

...like their cheonggukjang jjigae - the rich soybean paste stew which is fast on the way to becoming a regular item for us.

Ko Ryo Jeong, beef bibimbap

Got the bibimbap with beef because we had the one with pork the last time.

Ko Ryo Jeong, beef bibimbap

Something buried deep within the savoury tanginess and umami amid the textures that makes rice salads like this such great eats.

Ko Ryo Jeong, godeungeo gui

We had an order of godeungeo gui because I wanted to know if this would leave me the same impression about saba/mackerel like the one Myung Ga III did. The grilled fish here didn't leave a groove as deep.
